Join us and play your part in something special The opportunity: At Markel, we’re looking to hire an exciting new role for a Head of Insight & Propositions to join our marketing team. The role will involve hybrid working so can be based three days per week from any of our UK offices across London, Leeds, Manchester or Birmingham. The Head of Insight & Propositions will lead the strategic development, management, and optimisation of Markel’s propositions across the UK business. This role will help ensure that Markel’s products and propositions remain competitive, customer‑focused, and aligned with our growth strategy, while embedding a robust insights‑led approach to decision‑making and proposition design. What you’ll be doing: Lead the development, enhancement, and lifecycle management of agreed propositions across the UK business to ensure Markel maintains a leading and differentiated position in the commercial insurance market. Identify and evaluate opportunities to improve existing propositions or develop new ones through collaboration with Underwriting, Strategy, and Distribution teams. Work closely with Underwriting to review and refine the product development process, ensuring a faster speed to market, streamlined governance, and improved collaboration between technical and commercial functions. Use internal and external insights to identify customer and commercial opportunities, pinpoint pain points, and inform proposition priorities in line with the agreed strategic roadmap. Continuously assess the internal and external landscape, including competitor activity, market trends, and feedback from brokers, sales teams and underwriters, to shape Markel’s market position and find opportunities for innovation or service improvement. Evaluate management information, research, and performance indicators (e.g Broker surveys, NPS, insight reports, claims, product/service utilisation, process effectiveness) to drive continuous improvement in proposition design, communications, and delivery. Apply a structured proposition development framework to ensure robust design, governance, and alignment with regulatory, conduct, and customer value requirements. Collaborate cross‑functionally with Underwriting, Sales, Marketing, and Innovation & Change teams to enhance proposition processes and deliver efficient, customer‑led solutions. Build and maintain strong internal networks across the UK business and the wider Markel to align on strategic priorities, share insights, and foster a culture of collaboration and innovation. Partner with the Marketing and Sales functions to shape go‑to‑market strategies, ensure fair and accurate customer communications, and sign off financial promotions and intermediary‑facing materials. Manage, develop, and mentor the Insights Executive, ensuring the effective gathering, analysis, and dissemination of insights that inform proposition and business decision‑making. Employing insights and research to drive business and customer outcomes. Building strong partner relationships across technical, commercial, and operational functions. Facilitating proposition development and journey/process improvement. Understanding commercial insurance distribution channels and dynamics. Managing and developing team capability. Delivering results through structured governance, data‑driven decision‑making, and collaborative execution.
