Senior Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer Join Canonical as a Senior Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer and help shape the future of open‑source software and operating systems that power global enterprises and public cloud platforms. IT Production Services The Information Systems (IS) team, which you will join, supports and maintains all Canonical IT production services. Your role will automate operations, design cloud services, and contribute to the core infrastructure used by our customers and the Ubuntu community. Job Summary As a Senior Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer you will be responsible for: Driving automation and Gitops initiatives as an embedded tech lead. Collaborating with the IS architect to align solutions with the overall architecture vision. Designing and architecting services and products that the IS team can offer throughout the organization. Applying your IaC expertise to develop and improve infrastructure‑as‑code practices. Automating software operations for re‑usability and consistency across private and public clouds. Maintaining operational responsibility for Canonical’s core services, networks, and infrastructure. Developing troubleshooting, capacity planning, and performance investigation skills, including setting up monitoring and alerting with Prometheus, Grafana, and Elasticsearch. Providing assistance to globally distributed engineering, operations, and support peers. Focusing on larger projects and automation of manual tasks during uninterrupted development time. Sharing best practices with team members through design sessions, mentorship, and collaborative work. Carrying final responsibility for time‑critical escalations. Qualifications A modern view on hosting architecture driven by IaC across private and public clouds. A product mindset that thrives on developing products rather than individual solutions. Python software development experience with large projects. Experience working with Kubernetes or other container orchestration systems. Proven exposure to managing and deploying cloud infrastructure with code. Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls. Affinity with various forms of Linux storage, from Ceph to databases. Hands‑on experience administering enterprise Linux servers. Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies. Bachelor’s degree or greater in computer science or a related engineering field. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Motivated to troubleshoot across the stack and willing to ask for help when appropriate. Willingness to learn new things quickly and be flexible. Passion for open source, especially Ubuntu or Debian.
