OverviewJob overviewAn exciting opportunity has arisen to join our well-established Paediatric Asthma Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team, as a Deputy Clinical Nurse Specialist at the Evelina London Children’s hospital.We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic individual with excellent transferable paediatric nursing skills, communication skills and a desire to advocate for children and young people with complex needs and their families. The successful candidate will be a highly-motivated, to be part of a multi-disciplinary team who will have the opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge in this specialty.The paediatric asthma service, covers the local population and acts as the tertiary hub for a network of secondary care services across South London, Kent, Surrey and Sussex.We treat children in various clinical settings such as, outpatients and those admitted to our in-patients’ wards. The role involves supporting the education, discharge and support of children and their families in asthma / wheeze care.Our ideal candidate would have excellent communication skills, an ability to work alongside professionals from different professional backgrounds including social care and community-based establishments. We are a friendly team, and are really excited to welcome someone who would like to join us in the outstanding provision of asthma care.Closing date: Midnight 7th December 2025Provisional Interview date: 17th December 2025 Responsibilities The successful candidate will be involved with outpatient clinics, virtual clinics, transition from paediatric to adult care clinics, MDT clinics, as well as assisting with discharges and liaising with other teams in the network and community services.The successful candidate will work in collaboration with an existing CNS team to act as a resource of expert advice for other healthcare professionals and must be competent to deliver health promotion and education to parents, their families and others.To work collaboratively with other paediatric clinical and operational teams to ensure effective communication between the multi-disciplinary team at the Evelina and provide co-ordinated care in collaboration with others specialist services.Communicate effectively, to provide a co-ordinated equitable specialist service delivery, liaising with both primary care and district general hospitals and working with schools.To use specialist knowledge to effectively communicate with families, providing education, reassurance and on-going support to children and families about their diagnosis, treatment options and outcomes.Educate and empower children and families to learn the skills to self-manage their condition and care.Provide telephone and email support to families, which can at times be very sensitive. Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesEnsure that patients’ receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs anddoctrines.Independently manage a group of patients within the specialty whilstworking as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering individualised andpersonalised direct patient careTo be responsible, for maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitorsand other staff within the clinical environment.Ensure staff take precautions to minimise the risk of cross infection inrelation to the safe disposal of body fluids (including blood).Assess educational and information needs for patients and families, anddevise plans to ensure need are met.Promote high quality clinical care, and assist in the development of thespecialist service, through the use of evidence based practice and clinicalstandardsIdentify and intervene where circumstances contribute to an unsafeenvironment for patients and staff.
