HVDC & FACTS Field Service Engineer

We are looking for a self‑motivated service engineer in power electronics able to manage service contracts, site activities and to support/participate in commissioning of FACTS & HVDC equipment. Job Description This is a key position in GE’s Service organisation; you will be responsible for leading the technical portion of multi‑year service contracts, supporting customers in different countries and contributing to a community of experts that supports global customers with high‑technology equipment. GE FACTS & HVDC Solutions Includes SVC, Static Var Compensation FSC, Fixed Series Compensation SC, Synchronous Condenser STATCOM, Static Compensation LCC HVDC, High Voltage Direct Current VSC HVDC (Onshore & Offshore) Responsibilities Perform and lead maintenance, onsite activities, and technical support on FACTS or HVDC transmission systems. Manage preparations for site activities in coordination with end customers. Perform commissioning activities on FACTS or HVDC transmission systems. Lead the technical portion of service contracts running over several years. Attend and lead customer meetings, identifying solutions that meet needs. Apply knowledge and ability to carry out FACTS projects of minor renovations/upgrades. Support the ITO team during tenders for the technical part. Technical Knowledge Experience with switching equipment, harmonic filters and instrumentation transformers. Experience with FACTS equipment (Thyristor and IGBT), knowledge of rotating machines is a plus. Experience commissioning protection relays. Experience troubleshooting, using network recorders and/or analysers. Ability to resolve incidents on site and analyse logs and curves. Abilities Strong commitment to EHS and strict application of EHS rules during site incidents or under customer pressure. Exceptional oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyse and solve problems. Ability to document, write reports, and plan site activities. Foundations of project management. Management of on‑site teams. Excellent customer management skills, especially on site during an incident. Team player with a willingness to share knowledge and experience with colleagues. Required Qualifications Engineering degree or equivalent in power electronics. Demonstrated engineering background and technical understanding of power electronics. Relevant or identical experience in a similar position. In‑depth experience with drives or FACTS or HVDC equipment (valves, control, protections). Availability to travel up to 50% (potential 100% site assignments during training & thereafter). Fluent English language and communication skills. Existing clean UK driving licence required for all applicants.
