Occupational Therapy Assistant Job Summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapy Assistant who will support qualified Occupational Therapists to deliver high quality Occupational Therapy assessment and interventions within Acute Adult Mental Health inpatients. You will provide creative, imaginative solutions and support service users to achieve identified goals. The role offers access to the wider occupational therapy network in North Yorkshire and requires flexibility, vision, energy and inspirational support in delivering occupational therapy to adults with acute mental health needs. Key Responsibilities Support qualified Occupational Therapists to deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based occupational therapy assessment and interventions. Work flexibly to meet service needs, delivering creative and imaginative solutions. Engage service users in therapeutic activities, support the use of specialist equipment, and help users/carers achieve their identified goals. Provide 1:1 or group interventions as delegated by an Occupational Therapist, demonstrating adherence to Trust Values. Participate in clinical supervision and contribute to multi‑disciplinary team working. Carry out safety and quality improvement activities and use the Trust electronic patient record system. Abide by all Trust policies and procedures, and respond flexibly and creatively to challenges. Qualifications Relevant NVQ Level 3 in Care OR appropriate AVCE in Health & Social Care OR willingness to undertake within agreed timescale. Numeracy, Literacy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent). Experience Paid or voluntary work with people with mental health conditions or learning disabilities. Experience working alongside Occupational Therapists (desirable). Knowledge and Skills Awareness of needs of service users with learning disabilities or a mental health condition. Awareness of the needs of individuals from diverse social, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Understanding of therapeutic terminology and approaches. Understanding of health & safety issues. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) and record keeping. Time management and prioritisation. Breakaway techniques. Essential Criteria Right to Work in the UK. Must be able to demonstrate relevant experience and willingness to develop.
