Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust Specialist Gastroenterology Dietitian The closing date is 17 December 2025 We have a vacancy for a part‑time specialist, community based, gastroenterology dietitian based in Peterborough. The post holder will manage a wide range of dietetic gastroenterology conditions including IBS, IBD, PEI and Coeliac Disease, Bile Acid Malabsorption, Gastric transit disorders such as Dumping Syndrome and Liver Disease. As a community service, dietetic care could be provided in face‑to‑face clinics, people’s own homes or virtually – all dependent on the clinical needs of the patient. An ability to travel without reliance on public transport is therefore essential. Our team comprises four specialist teams (Gastroenterology, Mental Health, Diabetes and Nutrition Support) and is made up of 34 clinicians, of which 12 are assistants or assistant practitioners. We are committed to CPD, holding regular in‑house CPD sessions, as well as agreeing attendance at relevant external courses. Main duties of the job As a key member of the Cambridge and Peterborough Foundation NHS Trust, you will be joining an exceptional and well‑regarded team. Provide a dietetic service to specialist gastroenterology primary care clinics based throughout the county (though the expectation for this post would be that the majority of the clinics are run in the Peterborough area) with the rest being mainly virtual/telephone. To work with a wide variety of complex gastroenterology patients from the age of 16 years, including those with IBS, IBD, PEI and Coeliac Disease, Bile Acid Malabsorption, Gastric transit disorders such as Dumping Syndrome and Liver Disease. Taking into account factors such as the presenting condition, past medical history, medications, social factors, anthropometry, biochemistry and dietary intake to nutritionally diagnose, negotiate changes and formulate treatment plans in consultation with patients, relatives and carers. If the service requires, to run Low FODMAP group sessions either face‑to‑face or virtually (these may include pre‑agreed evening sessions). To conduct home visits as required. To be a specialist topic lead (allocated by the team lead) and work with the team lead in the development and maintenance of clinical standards, guidelines, pathways and evidence‑based practice in gastroenterology. To support the Team Lead in development and delivery of new ways of working to increase efficiency and effectiveness of the service, while continually monitoring and evaluating progress. To liaise with wider MDT and external providers to improve patient access to other agencies such as Talking Therapies and attain optimal patient outcome. Advise on the safe and appropriate use of prescribed nutritional supplements taking account of the influence they have on their gastroenterology condition. Once competent to advise on and appropriately adjustment of Pancreatic Enzyme Replacement Therapy. To develop and update written resources including patient information. Act as a point of reference on the management and treatment of patients with gastroenterology conditions for non‑specialist colleagues and other health professionals, giving advice and supporting their clinical practice. Provide training and updates about nutrition in gastroenterology and related issues to a wide range of audiences including colleagues, catering staff, health and social care staff, carers and clients. Maintain accurate records of all patient consultations and related work carried out at each clinical session, using the Nutrition and Dietetic Process and Model for consultations. Provide cover to colleagues as required. To work within the dietetic departmental clinical standards and evidence‑based practice and within professional boundaries. To support the department’s Preceptorship Scheme and student training when appropriate. To participate in the Nutrition and Dietetic Service specific emergency preparedness process. To attend all relevant business, team, 121 supervision and education meetings, unless on authorised leave or permission has been obtained from line manager. To undertake a "Service Wide responsibility" appropriate to grade in line with all other dietetic staff. To adhere to Nutrition and Dietetic Service Document "What a Good Service Looks like". To complete department competency frameworks relevant to your post. To be peer reviewed as required and conduct peer reviews on dietitians/students/assistants as well as support work shadowing as needed. To comply with the Professional Codes of Conduct and to be aware of changes in these. To maintain up to date knowledge of all relevant legislation and local policies and procedures implementing this. To ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest standard and in accordance with currently quality initiatives within the work area. To comply with all relevant Trust policies, procedures and guidelines, including those relating to Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety and Confidentiality of Information and to be aware of any changes in these. *DVLA have a reciprocal arrangements with overseas countries, for further information please visit the DVLA website Person Specification Education / Qualifications Registered HCPC Strong evidence of CPD (portfolio) Recognised post‑graduate relevant qualifications in gastroenterology or equivalent experience Low FODMAP course Experience Post graduate experience either giving first line or specialist advice with a range of patients of varying complexity who have gastroenterological conditions including Diverticular Disease, Coeliac Disease and IBS. Post graduate experience working in a range of settings including clinics. Experience of working in Primary care/GP clinics/home visits Experience of Mentoring/supervision of students Skills & Abilities Excellent written and verbal communication abilities and active listening skills. Ability to work flexibly as part of a team, including working outside core hours if required. Frequent requirement to concentrate on patient assessments and calculate patient recruitments. Able to understand and interpret FE1 result and appropriately dose adjust PERT. Has a working knowledge of laxative medications and other relevant GI medications. Demonstrate an understanding of the significance of safeguarding issues and interprets this accurately for all adults and young people. Has a realistic knowledge of personal strengths and areas for development. Is a self‑starter - able to solve problems, manage change and take a strategic view.
