University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Ward Sister/Charge Nurse The closing date is 18 December 2025 We are looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate, and highly motivated Band 7 Ward Sister or Charge Nurse to join our Oncology Wards at University College London Hospital. You should be a skilled Oncology nurse with a passion for leadership, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a genuine enthusiasm in caring for patients and creating an environment that facilitates the best patient and staff experience. This post would include leading and managing the nursing team to provide the highest standard of care and maintaining a culture of learning, development, improvement and teamworking. At UCLH we provide highly specialised cancer care for oncology patients with a wide range of solid tumours; we are one of two cancer centres in London offering specialised care to sarcoma patients. What we do Cytotoxic chemotherapy Trial treatments Biological therapies Radiotherapy Brachytherapy Radioisotope treatments Palliative care including complex symptom management and end of life care We have 52 Oncology inpatient beds across T13 and T16S and a Cancer Assessment Unit offering rapid assessment and treatment for up to 6 patients. Main duties of the job Visible leadership of the Oncology Ward Nursing team Ensuring provision of high-quality Oncology nursing care Ensuring a safe environment that meets organisational requirements for quality and safety such as infection control Staff management Roster management HR processes Recruitment and retention Team development Staff recognition Implementation of innovations in nursing care to ensure the team is fit to meet developments in Oncology Nursing Care Ensuring highest standard of patient and staff experience Management of local governance process – incident, risk and complaint management Responsibility for completion of ward audit processes Budget management Work with the MDT and the wider Cancer Division team to support the delivery of the highest standard of care To collaborate with Ward Sisters/Charge Nurses across the organisation to deliver innovations to nursing care and leadership About us University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) is one of the most complex NHS trusts in the UK, serving a large and diverse population. Person Specification Knowledge & Qualifications Registered Nurse Part 1, 2 or relevant section of the register. Teaching course. Relevant clinical course. Honours degree (Level 6) in health‑related subject or equivalent experience. Recognised Leadership course. Experience Minimum 2 years’ Oncology and managerial experience in a senior position experience. Communication Communicates effectively verbally, in writing and in electronic formats. Personal And People Development Demonstrates evidence of professional development in line with KSF, maintains updated Portfolio. Evidence of working as a preceptor, facilitator, or mentor. Reflective in Practice. Experience in leading others and responding to learning needs.
