We’re looking for a proactive and organised Plant Operations Lead to oversee the smooth running of internal and external plant hire activity. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced operational environment, enjoys improving processes, and can confidently coordinate teams and resources.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and support the day-to-day running of plant hire operations, ensuring structure, clear communication and timely follow‑through.Coordinate internal and external plant activity to minimise delays, avoid duplication, and maintain consistent planning across teams.Monitor equipment utilisation, reduce idle or underperforming assets, and make data‑driven recommendations.Manage “out of the ordinary” issues such as damages, losses, investigations, and trend reporting, contributing to toolbox talks and safety briefings.Work closely with management to develop an efficient external hire strategy while prioritising internal supply.Support stock control, supplier pricing, and the development of supply agreements to secure fast turnaround and competitive rates.Provide oversight of daily compliance routines, maintaining high legal and safety standards.Line manage Stores, Internal Hire/Stores, and External Hire functions, providing cover where required.Oversee Workshop and Fleet operations in management absence.Attend planning sessions and maintain strong communication between operational stakeholders.Track plant movements to support asset turnaround, workshop scheduling and hire fulfilment.Support systems cleanup and improved use of internal hire systems.Drive consistency across operational functions and contribute to the development of customer‑focused information‑sharing solutions.Oversee data‑sharing processes and support the implementation of new structures.Monitor asset movements and operational trends to inform wider reporting and planning.Develop and share equipment/toolbox talks, updates, and key operational communications.Create and maintain equipment datasheets, catalogues and supporting materials.Maintain monthly data for internal/external hire spend, revenue, trends, and notable activity.Assist with ad hoc operational tasks and requests as required.Skills & KnowledgeExcellent organisational and coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.Strong process‑improvement mindset with a practical, common‑sense approach.Clear and direct communicator, able to link activity across multiple teams.High attention to detail in follow‑through, documentation and communication.Knowledge of plant, fleet or logistics operations is beneficial but not essential.ExperienceProven experience coordinating operational activity across multiple stakeholders, ideally in a fast‑paced environment.Background in managing or supporting teams with a hands‑on problem‑solving approach.Demonstrated ability to resolve issues effectively within mixed‑skill teams.Experience in plant hire, supply chain or similar sectors is helpful but not essential.Proficient in Microsoft Office.Comfortable using or learning ERP, asset‑tracking or hire‑management systems.Able to support basic digital troubleshooting and promote consistent system usage.Capable of producing clear reports, trackers and shared documents.Training & DevelopmentWillingness to undertake relevant training (e.g., SSSTS, LOLER/PUWER awareness, hire systems, H&S).Comfortable delivering toolbox talks and supporting departmental communications.May assist in developing internal training materials.Strong awareness of safe working practices and ability to support a culture of compliance.QualificationsFull UK driving licence (essential)Management or supervisory training (e.g., ILM) (desirable)Business Administration or relevant vocational qualification (desirable)GCSE English and Maths or equivalentSeniority levelMid‑Senior levelEmployment typeFull‑timeJob functionBusiness Consulting and Services #J-18808-Ljbffr
