Role description Arcadis are currently looking to recruit a Leader to join our Geospatial, Data and Visualisation stream (GDV) in our UK Environmental Planning business. The role is technical lead for Geospatial, Data and Visualisation, within our UK Landscape, Masterplanning and Urbanism (LMU) Team, with the aim of growing the team’s capability and presence. You will help shape and deliver our geospatial strategy, define best practices, mentor colleagues, lead new initiatives and directly contribute to our global success. You will act as a technical and commercial manager, providing leadership and support across the team, as well as liaising with Arcadis’ global GIS user community. You will act as a point of contact for new opportunities and have a track record of business development and converting opportunities into project work. Currently the role will primarily focus on GIS, so you must have a deep knowledge of GIS and its associated technologies and an understanding of the Geospatial market in relation to natural and built asset consulting. This should cover data capture, processing and management and map production. The data and visualisation aspects of the role will focus on strengthening existing skill sets around 3D modelling and high‑end rendered imagery while also looking to develop new areas of technical knowledge around real‑time development, digital innovation and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Has strong business development skills, with a proven track record of successfully winning work. Has an in‑depth understanding of landscape / townscape and visual impact assessment and the specialist requirements for associated visualisation and modelling. Ideally has worked with other environmental specialisms such as Ecology and Nature‑Based Solutions teams. Experience of working with resource teams in the UK and overseas. Role accountabilities Lead the delivery of GDV projects and the team ensuring client satisfaction, effective project management and good communication and collaboration between Arcadis colleagues. Coordinating work for GDV staff based in the UK and overseas. Build strong relationships with internal and external clients. Providing GIS technical mentorship to GIS staff including team leaders and Principal and Senior grade staff. Provide specialised GIS technical input to major/complex studies. Stay current with geospatial and AI industry trends and technologies. Prepare, check and approve technical reports, drawings, data platforms. Undertake presentations on GIS, Data and Visualisation. Manage GDV project budgets. Work with the GDV team to deliver GIS and Visualisation deliverables to tight deadlines. Undertake quality control of GIS and Visualisation work undertaken by other GDV staff. Contribute to the technical development of the GDV team through sharing ideas and innovations. Travel to other offices for business development and project meetings. Encourage SHEQ feedback and take a lead in solving SHEQ issues. Line manage GDV team staff. Manage the performance of team members and sub‑contractors, identifying and ensuring the resolution of any issues. Qualifications & Experience Essential Experience A relevant degree in GIS, computer sciences, geography or other relevant subject, with advanced knowledge of GIS software or work experience and qualifications reflecting a similar level of expertise. Experience with ESRI stack, particularly ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and Enterprise. Experience with Enterprise Geodatabases, databases and SQL for handling large datasets. AI literacy, with the ability to communicate concepts clearly and support skill development. Suitability for security clearance. Previous GIS / Geospatial project management experience. Excellent people management/pastoral skills and experience of leading and managing large diverse teams to deliver successful outcomes for clients. Ability to work within commercial constraints to provide output on budget and programme. Excellent technical knowledge and experience of ESRI ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise at version 10.5 and above. Experience of ESRI ArcGIS Pro. Knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes and data formats and an understanding of how these support the delivery of engineering and environmental design. Experience of preparing Geospatial technical written content. Experience of promoting Geospatial via presentations and networking. Customer focussed approach to quality and service. Ability to identify innovative solutions to problems and act on these to add value to clients and develop the Geospatial business. Experience of mentoring junior staff. Able to communicate new concepts and ideas to technical and non‑technical colleagues including effective use of English orally and in writing. Understand how to manage health, safety and welfare within own area of responsibility. Have recognised expertise in Geospatial discipline with well‑established industry network. Desirable Experience Experience working within the Environmental Consultancy Sector. Experience working in 3D modelling software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, 3DS Max or Revit. Skills in Python (including ArcPy and data science libraries), with additional experience in .NET, Java or modern JavaScript libraries.
