Occupational Therapist - Directorate of Forensic Mental Health and Learning Disabilities We are delighted to be advertising this 1.0 WTE band 6 Forensic Occupational Therapist post within our highly motivated and innovative Forensic AHP team. The Forensic Directorate is comprised of a medium secure unit, low secure unit and forensic community mental health and learning disabilities team. Those working for the Forensic Directorate can work within any of these areas at any time. The role of the forensic Occupational Therapist is based on the evidence that engagement in meaningful everyday activity is important for promoting health, reducing symptoms of mental illness, reducing or managing risk and offending behaviour. Shift pattern: 5 day out of 7, 08.30 – 16.30. Key responsibilities: Initially working within the medium secure unit – Rowanbank, act as an independent expert forensic practitioner managing a variety of complex and challenging conditions. Provide specialist occupational therapy assessment, treatment and evaluation on the efficacy of service‑user care, both individually and in groups, whilst identifying physical, mental, behavioural and risk barriers. Utilise standardised clinical tools based on the Model of Human Occupation where appropriate. Provide specialist professional advice to other disciplines, carers and agencies across all levels of security and in the community. Engage with the wider multi‑disciplinary team and work across agencies to deliver packages of care. Apply knowledge of Occupational Therapy input into risk assessment & risk management, offender behaviour work and understanding of mental health legislation and MAPPA. Contribute to the evaluation and development of the occupational therapy service within the designated area with reference to clinical governance, clinical effectiveness and national policies and drivers. Lead on departmental and team projects. Supervise junior staff as part of supervision systems, including clinical workload and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate pre‑registration students where required.
