What does a land and property valuer do?As a land and property valuer you would advise clients on the value of their land, buildings or commercial property. You could work for an estate agent, or local authority, helping to set council tax rates.Key ResponsibilitiesEstimating the market value of land, buildings, and commercial (real estate) propertiesHelping clients to maximise profits from the sale or rent of their propertyConducting research into client’s assetsWriting detailed reportsOrganising auctions, marketing properties to potential bidders and managing salesCarrying out business and insurance valuationsCompleting compensation assessmentsOffering investment appraisals and adviceResolving disputes around land and property salesKeeping up to date with the property marketHow to become a land and property valuerThere are several routes to becoming a land and property valuer. You could complete a university or college course, an apprenticeship, or on‑the‑job training.Academic RoutesUndergraduate degree in a relevant subject (e.g., law, economics, maths) followed by an accredited postgraduate qualification in surveyingSpecialised higher qualification approved by the Royal Institution of Chartered SurveyorsDistance learning course with the University College of Estate ManagementCollege / Training Provider CoursesLevel 3 Diploma in Construction and the Built EnvironmentT Level in Construction Design, Surveying and PlanningProfessional Diploma in Law and Practice (Level 3 or 6)Level 4 or 6 Diploma in Conveyancing Law and Practice through the Council for Licensed Conveyancers (CLC)Apprentice RouteChartered surveyor degree apprenticeship – full employment, minimum 30 hours a week, split between on‑job experience and study at a college or training providerAdditional SkillsKnowledge of building and constructionExcellent communication skillsGood maths and analytical thinking skillsAttention to detailQualificationsCollege course introducing surveying (e.g., level 3 diploma, T Level, or related programmes)Chartered surveyor degree apprenticeshipUndergraduate degree in property development and valuation, real estate management, building or quantity surveying, or commercial managementSalaryNewly trained valuers: £33,000 per yearExperienced valuers: up to £53,000 per year #J-18808-Ljbffr
