Liaise with vendors and external companies for site surveys. Monitor competition. Undertake research and collate information for reports. Manage budgets. How to Become a Land Buyer There are several routes: university degree, apprenticeship, or direct application. Enthusiasm and willingness to learn are often valued over formal qualifications. You may need a CSCS card to work on a construction site. Qualifications and Training Level 4 Land Referencer apprenticeship. Degree in a relevant subject (Geography, Surveying, Property development and valuation, Building surveying, Quantity surveying, Civil engineering). Postgraduate qualification in surveying is an option. Skills Attention to detail and thoroughness. Mathematical and analytical thinking. Initiative and independent working. Excellent verbal communication and English language. Knowledge of building and construction. Computer competence with main software packages. Salary Newly trained land buyers start at £28,000; experienced buyers earn up to £55,000. Salary varies by location, employer, level of responsibility and training route.
