We do this by placing our patients at the centre of everything we do, and through involving patients and their families in all decisions regarding their care.We can only achieve this with the help of our amazing colleagues, by developing and recognising their contribution, and by sharing our knowledge and skills through education, audit and research.Job responsibilitiesAs part of the Facilities team, the FacilitiesAssistant will help to maintain the estate including basic repairs andhandyperson duties, gardening, portering, cleaning, setting up meeting rooms,security duties and some patient transport/driving. This includes not only the MainHospice site, but also covers the Retail operation with shops located incentral York City as well as Easingwold, Malton, Pocklington and Selby.To be a member of the Facilities On-Callteam, performing basic maintenance repairs and security preventativeactions, as required out of hours including evenings, weekends and publicholidays when competent and trained to do so.This is renumerated in line with equivalent NHS roles.Mainduties and responsibilities1.Perform basicmaintenance/DIY/painting tasks. Undertake minor works and report all defects.2.Assist with gardening /groundwork and external duties including seasonal gardening duties, workingwith volunteer gardeners, as well as keeping the pathways and car parks clean,clear and safe, in particular during adverse weather conditions when grittingand / or snow clearing will be required.3.Undertake Pre PlannedMaintenance such as PAT testing, fire alarm/equipment testing and equipmentmaintenance etc.4.Have an awareness of laws andpolicies relating to H&S, COSHH and Infection Control.5.Perform locking up duties,according to Hospice procedure, to ensure the safety of staff and patients andthat buildings are secure.6.Prepare recycling / clinicalwaste / laundry for collection.7.Undertake portering duties,including manual handling (moving and lifting) and ad hoc requests.8.Contact Funeral Directors andassist with Mortuary requirements.9.Supply light bulbs, batteriesetc to staff as needed.10.Ensure all areas aremaintained in a good order of cleanliness including boiler/plant rooms,electrical distribution areas, storerooms and service areas, certain clinicalareas, offices and meeting rooms.11.Cleaning duties includingregular scheduled high-level cleaning (training to be provided), plus carpetand window cleaning.12.Ensure the usage of allcleaning equipment and materials is in accordance with Manufacturersrecommendations and Hospice policy.13.Liaisewith external contractors to enable them to undertake work required on theHospice or any of the retail premises/ wider estate.Transport& Driving1.Transport patients and staffin a professional, safe, secure and effective way. Assist patients and staff to board thevehicle, be secured and leave the vehicle safely. Ensure wheelchair patients are securedaccording to policy.2.Ensure the vehicle is clean andtidy and carries correct the stock for each journey and has sufficient fuel.3.Record any defects and recordall mileage according to policy.4.Ensure patients property isreturned to them at the end of each journey.5.If required, ensure oxygen iscarried correctly according to policy.6.Transport records, notes,samples and equipment to and from the hospital as required.7.Report any concerns orqueries regarding the patients to the relevant staff.8.In the event of an emergency,breakdown or incident be aware of the procedures to follow.Person SpecificationExperienceBasic maintenance & DIY SkillsKnowledge and understanding of manual handlingBasic administration and IT skillsKnowledge of COSHH & Health & Safety RegulationsQualificationsPersonalTrustworthy and honestWork on own initiativeAble to work as a team memberProblem solvingPossess integrity and discretion, and able to respect confidentialityHelpful and professionalHave sympathy with the philosophy and concept of Hospice CareBe able to show respect to the DeceasedCommunicationInterpersonal skillsAbility to be sensitive and empatheticAbility to communicate at all levels within the Hospice and communityITGood basic IT skillsKnowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)Other requirementsHolder of a full, valid driving licenceEnhanced DBS CheckBe prepared to assist with Hospice fundraising activitiesDisclosure and Barring Service CheckThis post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions. #J-18808-Ljbffr
