MRI Radiographer Closing date: 10 December 2025 The MRI department at Kings College Hospital is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Radiographer to join our team. We undertake a wide array of sub‑specialist scanning including musculoskeletal, neuro, trauma, hepatobiliary, cardiac, vascular and paediatric imaging. Our equipment includes two state‑of‑the‑art 1.5 T Siemens Sola scanners, three 1.5 T Siemens Aera scanners, and a 3 T Siemens Vida scanner. We are a busy unit with a friendly, supportive team. We operate a 10‑hour shift system (4 × 10 hour days) over seven days and expect night duties (3 × 12 hour nights). Post‑qualification experience is essential. Cross‑sectional imaging experience is desirable but not essential. Main duties of the job Provide timely, efficient and courteous provision of MRI services to the agreed standards of the department, taking account of patients' clinical, physical and cultural needs. Deal with routine MRI safety issues as they arise, taking advice when necessary. Perform out of hours duties, including evenings, nights and weekends as part of the 24/7 MRI service. Carry out out of hours duties without supervision. Monitor and adjust work priorities in conjunction with other professionals to meet changing demand. Assess and manage own workload, communicate priorities, organise workload and encourage collaboration. Ensure safe use and maintenance of imaging equipment, reporting faults to senior staff or directly to the manufacturer. Participate in the departmental rota, being flexible in responding to service needs. Be responsive to change management issues and understand implications for the Radiology service. Ensure all adverse incidents are reported in line with Trust policies. Participate in clinical audit to improve quality of service. Participate in multiple site rotation as and when necessary. Undertake any other duties arising at the discretion of the Lead Superintendent Radiographer. Job responsibilities Service Delivery Act as patient and staff advocate and provide timely, efficient and courteous MRI services, considering patients' clinical, physical and cultural needs. Communication Welcome patients and staff, communicate sensitively with patients or carers under emotional stress, including terminally ill and bereaved. Communicate information about conditions and procedures, obtain informed consent, and adapt communication for patients with difficulties. Provide accurate information to referrers and ensure urgent findings are communicated appropriately. Lead junior radiographers and assist with diagnostics, ensuring safety and wellbeing of all parties. Knowledge, training and experience Adapt techniques to each examination, acting as an MRI Authorised Supervisor and Operator under MHRA guidelines. Ensure scans are performed within safe limits, familiar with safety procedures (quench, fire, cardiac arrest) and comply with Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts. Maintain professional actions, consult senior staff, provide knowledge to others, and ensure legal documentation in RIS and PACS. Safely administer contrast media, train on advanced software on specialised MRI equipment, and advise on additional sequences. Physical skills and effort Ensure safe transfer of patients and equipment, follow manual handling guidelines, assist with personal care as necessary. Operate radiological equipment requiring excellent hand‑eye coordination, adhere to infection control measures. Management responsibility Manage workload with support, adhere to policies, support multidisciplinary team, maintain communication, and quality assurance. Participate in departmental Quality Assurance Programme and report adverse incidents. Professional & practice development, training & education Supervise and train radiographers and related staff, review and develop protocols. Contribute to service improvements, maintain competencies, and support non‑radiographic staff training. Research & audit Participate in clinical audit and research, adhere to standards, protocols and documentation. General values Maintain duty of care, comply with Trust policies, promote inclusion, demonstrate King's values of compassion, respect, and teamwork. Maintain confidentiality and use Trust‑issued @nhs.net email for internal communication. Safeguarding Attend mandatory safeguarding training for children and adults, familiarise with Trust policies, report concerns in line with Trust protocols. Person Specification Experience Demonstrates a caring attitude towards patients and their needs. Can demonstrate ability to work in a team. MRI experience. Clear evidence of why the role is suited to them with understanding of the King's Values. NHS experience in an acute hospital trust. Qualifications HCPC registration and currently working in a role. Evidence of CPD in MRI.
