The Apprenticeship Our Aerospace Electrical Technical Support Apprenticeship is suited for those who are interested in the theoretical side of engineering - planning, scheduling, design, development & test elements of electrical engineering. Electrical Engineering, in a helicopter context, covers areas such as electrical/avionics, communication, navigation, surveillance and weapon systems. During the scheme, you will experience a number of placements across the Engineering department, with the ultimate aim of moving you into a final placement area based on business requirements and the skills displayed during the apprenticeship. The apprenticeship will start with an Induction into Leonardo, followed by a Yeovil College Induction to ensure that apprenticeship requirements and expectations are fully established. You will combine your time between Yeovil College and work placements at Leonardo Helicopters, increasing your work placements as you move through the years. Throughout the apprenticeship apprentices may be placed in some or all of the following departmental areas: Electrical Design (learn and carry out 3D design of electrical cabling/looming to meet the aircraft airframe specifications) Electro‑magnetic Environmental Effects: (gain an understanding and participate in the clearing of aircraft from an electro‑magnetic capability perspective) Manufacturing Engineering: (work closely with the aircraft production line, producing the electrical work instructions for the manufacture of aircraft on the build lines) Electrical Manufacturing Centre: (be involved in the planning of loom manufacture, designing the form boards to manufacture the looms, manufacture of aircraft looms and continuity testing) Avionics: (run the test schedules for the testing of aircraft Line Replaceable Units (LRUs), electrical systems and software on specific test beds) During your apprenticeship, you will: Grow your knowledge of an engineering business. Develop practical skills in engineering and understanding key processes and technologies. Support early careers activities - our apprentices have the opportunity to work as STEM ambassadors in schools, colleges and universities The starting salary for this role is £17,850 What we need from you Qualifications You must have (as a minimum) the following qualifications: 5 GCSEs at a minimum of a C/4, including GCSE Maths at a minimum of a B/5. These grades are non‑negotiable. Security Clearance This role is subject to pre‑employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personnel Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NSV) may apply, this could include meeting the eligibility requirements for The Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).
