The role of receptionist / call handler is to provide first point of contact to the surgery and to provide support to project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone. It is part of the receptionist / call handler role to signpost patients to the appropriate clinician or service.Main duties of the jobThe following are the core responsibilities of the receptionist. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:a. Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointment systemb. Process personal, telephone and e-requests for appointmentsc. Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the callers request appropriatelyd. Signpost patients to the correct servicee. Initiating contact with and responding to, requests from patients, team members and external agenciesf. Read code data on Sytmoneg. Photocopy documentation as requiredh. Input data into the patients healthcare records as necessaryi. Manage all queries as necessary in an efficient mannerj. Carry out system searches as requestedk. Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all timesl. Monitor and maintain the reception area and notice boardsm. Support all clinical staff with general tasks as requestedn.
