As we continue to expand our technical capability and market presence, we are seeking a dynamic Operations Director to lead our projects, engineering, design, quality, and compliance functions. This is a pivotal senior leadership role, responsible for operational excellence, regulatory governance, and the effective delivery of projects that protect lives and enable safer buildings across the UK. Key Responsibilities Lead and direct all operational functions, including Projects, Engineering, Design, Technical, Quality, and Compliance. Develop and implement operational strategies that support NSP’s growth trajectory, service model, and commercial targets. Embed a culture of accountability, high performance, and continuous improvement across all teams. Drive operational readiness to support business expansion, new services, and increasing project volumes. Project Delivery & Client Excellence Oversee the end‑to‑end planning, execution, and delivery of smoke ventilation and building safety projects nationwide. Ensure all projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and regulatory standards. Act as the final escalation point for complex technical, operational, or client issues. Champion a best‑in‑class client experience, ensuring trust, transparency, and strong long‑term relationships. Engineering, Design & Technical Governance Ensure engineering and design output is technically robust, compliant, innovative, and commercially viable. Provide senior oversight on technical strategy, system standardisation, and solution development. Maintain compliance with relevant UK Building Regulations, BS EN 12101 series, fire‑safety guidance, and harmonised standards. Support ongoing CPD, upskilling, and technical development across project, engineering, and design teams. Quality, Safety & Compliance Lead the organisation’s quality governance framework, ensuring rigorous adherence to internal processes and external standards. Oversee internal audits, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives. Ensure operational compliance with CDM, QMS frameworks, and all fire‑safety‑related legislation. Proactively identify operational risks and lead mitigation strategies to protect project performance and organisational integrity. Commercial & Business Alignment Collaborate closely with the Managing Director and Sales Director to align operational capacity with pipeline, resourcing, and business development plans. Provide regular performance reporting, forecasting, and operational insights to the leadership team and board. Contribute to long‑term strategic planning, resource allocation, and organisational structure development. Skills & Experience Proven experience in a senior operations role within construction, M&E, building services, fire safety, or life‑safety systems. Strong technical understanding of smoke ventilation, mechanical/electrical systems, or similar regulated building‑safety installations. Demonstrated leadership of multi‑disciplinary teams including engineering, design, and project delivery. Excellent organisational, commercial, and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels. Strong working knowledge of UK Building Regulations, fire safety standards, and compliance frameworks. Experience managing multi‑site operations, complex projects, and high‑risk environments. Experience in high‑rise residential, new‑build developments, or communal building systems. Chartered status or professional membership (e.g., CEng, IEng, MCIBSE, MIET) or equivalent senior‑level engineering qualification. Experience in scaling operational teams or leading transformation programmes.
