Response Officer Night Only (Temporary) – Leeds City Council Job Title: Response Officer Night Only (Temporary) • Salary: £26,403 – £28,142 (pro‑rate) + shift allowance & weekend enhancements • Hours: 35.25 hours per week • Contract: Temporary • Location: Leedswatch Shift starts at 17:00 and finishes at 04:00. The role is temporary, ending 31 July 2026. Basic starting salary £28,142 per annum pro‑rate with potential to earn £37,428 due to pro‑rate enhancements. About the Role As a night‑only Response Officer, you will work as part of a team to investigate noise complaints, perform routine patrols and security checks, attend court as required, and support crime‑reduction initiatives in line with the Safer Leeds Plan. Key Responsibilities Use own initiative where appropriate. Comply with all operational procedures and working guidelines. Work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and its ongoing development. Contribute to the development and promotion of Leedswatch. Work individually and as part of a team to ensure key performance indicators, objectives and targets are met. Work with the Police and other agencies to provide an appropriate response to incidents and engage in action days and other initiatives. Use a range of communication tools such as radios, telephone, body cameras, mobile CCTV equipment and basic IT equipment. Ring customers back to determine if noise is still ongoing and carry out visits to witness and document any nuisance. Where noise is witnessed and deemed unreasonable, advise domestic and commercial premises to reduce volume to an acceptable level. Serve warnings or legal notices required under the EPA Act 1990 & Anti‑Social Behaviour, Crime & Policing Act 2014 and attend court when necessary. Work across all Leedswatch service areas to ensure continuity of service. Maintain a polite and professional manner at all times, especially if difficult or abusive situations arise. Respond to customers and clients as incidents are reported (e.g. alarms, noise nuisance, tower blocks, parks and countryside). Undertake patrols, report all insecurities and take appropriate action to re‑secure, including seeking the assistance of partners and emergency services. Attend alarms/activations and assistance calls assigned to you. Issue, collect and audit keys on behalf of clients as and when necessary. Complete administrative procedures within the service if required. Undertake dynamic risk assessments when arriving on site to ensure health and safety is not compromised. Work in a cooperative environment and share knowledge and best practice with colleagues and managers across the service. Participate in appraisal, training and development activities to keep knowledge and skills up to date. Improve own practice through observation, evaluation, discussion with colleagues and appropriate continuing professional development programmes. Work collaboratively with colleagues, knowing when to seek help and advice and provide assistance when required. Contribute to the overall ethos, work and aims of the service by attending relevant meetings, training days and events as requested. Be aware of and comply with Leeds City Council policies and procedures (child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality, data protection) and report all concerns to an appropriate person. Drive a vehicle in accordance with council regulations, keeping the LCC vehicle clean and tidy and reporting concerns to the shift supervisor or team supervisor. Be motivated and a critical thinker who understands customers' needs. Qualifications Must be willing to undertake Security Industry Authority Level 2 BTEC awards for security. Essential Requirements Full current UK driving licence. Accurate records keeping and understanding of regulations, policy and legislation. Preserve crime scenes & evidence. Work in a team and contribute to team building. Work on own initiative, accept responsibility and make decisions within agreed criteria. Communicate effectively at all levels. Work with minimal supervision. Deal with conflicting or difficult situations. Understand the requirements of confidentiality and the Data Protection Act. Prepare accurate information and produce witness statements. Attend court and give evidence. Investigate and assess appropriate course of action to resolve issues and prevent reoccurrences. Carry out all duties concerning health & safety policies. Work with computer packages. Liaise with Police and other agencies. Work as part of a team to meet targets and deliver a responsive service.
