Roles in the centre work closely with the Executive Team to shape and deliver our strategic goals, while also partnering with the business functions to embed the values, behaviours and strategic ambitions of the Group. Job Overview This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced payroll professional to join our Central Functions team as a Payroll Supervisor, where you will lead and support the payroll specialists to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of payroll services across the Group. You’ll work closely with the Payroll Manager and Head of Operations to deliver a responsive, customer‑focused approach to pay and benefits. Responsibilities Manage and supervise the delivery of weekly and monthly end‑to‑end payrolls, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Lead and support the Payroll Specialists, providing motivation, guidance, and training as required. Act as a point of escalation for complex or sensitive payroll queries, ensuring timely resolution. Ensure accurate and timely provision of payroll data for processing. Oversee reconciliation of payroll data prior to submission and work collaboratively with the Payroll Manager to ensure compliance with internal checks and audits. Ensure all employment, pension, and third‑party payments are made correctly and on time. Maintain payroll systems and ensure employee and benefits data is accurate and up to date. Support payroll system testing during upgrades or legislative changes. Identify opportunities for improving payroll processes, automation, and efficiency. Ensure full compliance with all PAYE, National Insurance, pension and UK payroll legislation. Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams (Finance, HR, iTrent Systems) and external stakeholders including HMRC. Contribute to UK‑wide payroll and reward initiatives or projects as required by the Payroll Manager or Head of Operations. Provide guidance to employees and managers, delivering a high level of customer service. Undertake any other reasonable tasks or responsibilities as required. Confidentiality: Skilled in handling sensitive payroll and employee information with discretion. Communication: Clear and professional written and verbal communication. Teamwork: Collaborative approach with the ability to supervise, influence, and support others. Microsoft Office Proficiency: Advanced Excel skills and good working knowledge of other MS Office tools. Behaviours Professionalism: Maintains high standards of ethics and conduct in all situations. Customer Service Orientation: Delivers a responsive and supportive payroll service to internal stakeholders. Initiative: Proactively identifies improvements and drives efficiency. Accountability: Owns tasks and ensures delivery to a high standard and in compliance with procedures. Continuous Learning: Keeps up to date with changes in payroll regulations and industry best practice. Experience Minimum 3 years’ experience in a payroll supervisory role or similar. Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, including tax, pension, and statutory payments. Experience delivering both weekly and monthly end‑to‑end payrolls. Background in engineering/construction or similar industry, with knowledge of working rule agreements, desirable. Proven track record of working to strict deadlines in a fast‑paced environment. Proficiency in payroll systems and data reporting, including advanced Excel. Professional certifications such as Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) advantageous.
