Job summary An exciting new opportunity is available to join the R&D Ophthalmic, Women and Children Team at South Tees NHS Foundation Trust as a Band 5 Research Nurse/ Paediatric Research Nurse/Clinical Trial Coordinator. This post will work within the team managing the set-up, participant recruitment and follow-up of clinical trials. The post is based at James Cook University Hospital but may involve working at other sites within the Tees Valley Research Alliance. The job purpose includes making a direct contribution to expanding the research portfolio at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post-holder will learn to manage and co-ordinate concurrent research studies with support from senior research colleagues. This will involve providing effective, caring and compassionate services to patients who are participating in clinical research studies. Main duties of the job The post holder is expected to complete procedures and investigations according to study protocol as well as Trust and local policies. Procedures include identifying potential participants for recruitment, providing verbal and written information to explain the study, monitoring the participants' progress, and collecting and collating patient data. Procedures will also include clinical practices such as clinical assessment, venepuncture and performing study specific tests. The post holder will work collaboratively with the wider multi-disciplinary team in the co-ordination of clinical studies and ensure that local, national and international research regulations are adhered to with an express commitment to abide by the NHS values and the Constitution. The post holder will be working within the Ophthalmic department and also Paediatric areas, recruiting to clinical trials. The post holder is expected to ensure recruitment to time and target for clinical trials; to provide information to patients, considering entry into specific research studies; to assist with the co-ordination of a portfolio of clinical trials and research studies across various clinical areas. Provide some administrative and data management support for all aspects of trial organisation as a member of the research network team & to communicate and collaborate with local regional and national organisations regarding administration of research as required. Person specification Qualifications Health related degree or equivalent professional qualification or experience. GCP training Knowledge Knowledge of clinical and research terminology.
