Main duties of the job Assessmentand care of paediatric patients of all ages attending the Emergency Department. Planning and delivery ofnursing care that reflects current patient care needs. Evaluation of care incollaboration with patient / carers and multidisciplinary team. Involved in the care oftrauma patients and resuscitation of critically unwell patients. Be a safe practitioneraware of own limitations and reporting any areas of concern to a more seniornurse. Work effectively as part ofa team. Awareness of andco-operating in maintaining Accident and Emergency health care targets in thebest interest of the patient. Participate in teaching /training of more junior staff. Follow policy and procedureaccurately for Safeguarding. Ongoingdevelopment of skills and knowledge to become a competent Emergency Departmentnurse. We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes. Job responsibilities Carryout duties in keeping with NMC Code of Conduct and ensure other members ofnursing staff practice within said code. Sets and monitors standards of quality nursing care overa 24 hour period by co-coordinating the care given by nurses, medical staff andsocial workers, alongside any other professionals directly involved in patientcare on the department. Supervises the delivery of quality nursing care. Praisesand corrects team members as appropriate, and is involved in personaldevelopment of the workforce using KSF/performance review. Ensure that resources are appropriately are utilised tomaximum effectiveness against workload and activity of the Accident &Emergency Department. Actively contributes to the attainment of nationaltargets in relation to paediatric emergency care; which include the four hourstandard and ambulance handover standard. Utilise all of the available resources to ensure patientflow through the Emergency Department. Where flow is compromised any barriersto be escalated through the line management structure or command and controlstructure as deemed appropriate. To actively respond to changes in the Trust Opel level.To carry out the actions in the clinical escalation plan and support thenursing and medical team in carrying out aforementioned plans. Responsible for the health, safety and welfare of thestaff, patients and visitors under his/her control, as far as is reasonablypracticable and in compliance with statutory duty, e.g., C.O.S.H.H. and ManualHandling of Loads. This responsibility to include provision of systems of work;place of work and work equipment that are safe and without risk to health. Reports on levels of nursing care quality to nursemanagement. Ensures that sufficient information is available forrelatives and patients, both written and verbal and provides access to furtherinformation as required. Promote and maintain a culture of patient & staffincident reporting in accordance with trust guidelines. Work within the multi-disciplinary team to ensureeffective team working in the provision of care to ED patients Identify and safeguarding concernsand act on them Person Specification Experience Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for patients in the Emergency Department Maintain accurate nursing records. Experience as a band 5 staff nurse. Mental Health Training Statutory Registration Registered Children's Nurse Statutory Registration Team player / Collaborative working Prioritise workload / organisational skills Adjust pace according to workload Work under pressure Evidence of professional development Willingness to expand role Knowledge of Emergency Department performance targets Knowledge of ED KPIs Special Requirements Ability to work Long Days, Nights and weekends.
