Job SummaryThis is a full‑time post with the option for part‑time (minimum 34.5 hrs) at the Jenny Lind 8‑bed acute inpatient ward for older adults with complex mental illness. The role requires working rotating shifts, covering 24 hours a day, seven days a week.About the WardJenny Lind offers comprehensive assessment and treatment for older adults with severe mental illness, often presenting with complex physical comorbidities. A multidisciplinary team – nurses, HCA, physiotherapists, OT, activity support workers, consultant psychiatrists, junior doctors, psychologists, and adult social care colleagues – delivers holistic, person‑centred care. The ward supports student nurses and nurses associate students and includes supervised teaching of students on placement.Key ResponsibilitiesPlan and deliver daily nursing care and therapeutic activities in line with patient needs and care plans.Support patients’ independence, wellbeing and daily living activities in a person‑centred manner.Review, update and document care plans, and conduct risk assessments.Administer medication and monitor physical health.Collaborate with medical, therapy and multidisciplinary team for patient care and discharge planning.Attend MDT meetings and ensure the Mental Health Act is correctly applied and documented.Supervise health‑care support workers, junior colleagues and students on placement.What We Offer27 days leave plus bank holidays, increasing up to 33 days with long service.Generous NHS pension and enhanced pay for unsocial hours.Flexible and agile working opportunities.Great maternity, paternity and adoption support.Wide range of supportive staff networks.Health and wellbeing programmes.Job DetailsContract: Permanent, full‑time or part‑time flexible working.Location: Jenny Lind Ward, Stonebow Unit, Stonebow Road, Hereford, Herefordshire, HR1 2ER.Pay: £31,049 – £37,796 a year pro‑rata (Band 5).Reference number: C9798‑1790.QualificationsEssentialRegistered Nurse (Mental Health, Adult or LM) or RNLD.Registered on the NMC register.Evidence of continuing professional development.DesirableCompletion of preceptorship.Student mentor & assessor experience.ExperienceEssentialExperience in a clinical coordinator or comparable role supporting a multidisciplinary team.Commitment to equality, diversity and rights promotion.DesirableExperience managing a range of physical health conditions in mental health settings.Knowledge & SkillsEssentialKnowledge of the Mental Health Act and evidence‑based interventions for functional mental health diagnoses.Skill in risk assessment and competence with mental capacity legislation.Strong organizational and team leadership abilities.DesirableTraining in safety interventions (e.g., Mappa, NEWS 2).Experience with falls prevention and management.Additional safety and safety‑intervention training.Additional CriteriaAbility to work flexibly to cover a 24‑hour, 365‑day service.Links and InquiriesFor further information, please visit the trust website or contact the recruiting manager.
