Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is seeking a dynamic Head of Charity to drive our charitable strategy, lead fundraising, and inspire a culture of innovation. The Head of Charity is responsible for the vision, strategic leadership, and delivery of all functions related to charitable income generation for Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. This senior role oversees all aspects of the Health Charity’s operations, with a prime focus on leading fundraising to drive optimum performance. Currently there are over 90 charities that operate within or are associated with the Cardiff and Vale Health Boards remit, this role will be key in aligning and co ordinating the work of these stakeholders to ensure the best outcomes for the population. The postholder will operate independently, aligning annual plans and delivery to meet strategic needs, managing departmental functions, interpreting organisational policies, and ensuring compliance with all legal frameworks. A key focus is driving donor-centric partnerships, providing exceptional supporter experiences, and building strong stakeholder relationships. The Head of Charity acts as a dedicated ambassador for the Health Board, committed to transforming patient care through a business-minded and innovative approach to development. Person specification Qualifications and Knowledge Master’s degree or equivalent training and extensive, relevant experience at senior leadership level within a fundraising setting. Specialist subject matter knowledge gained through relevant post graduate qualification or extensive experience in fundraising. Additional qualification or training in relevant subject such as marketing or business management. Experience Evidence of achieving high fundraising performance, across a number of fundraising streams, in a charity, university or other relevant setting. Evidence of delivery against stretching fundraising targets. Proven ability to build, manage and develop key stakeholder, donor and partner relationships. Experience of developing sustainable income streams in a charitable organisation. Experience in managing external relations and communications. Experience of fundraising in a healthcare setting and/or wider charity sector. Knowledge and understanding of the NHS and its processes and workings. Skills and Attributes Leadership skills and the ability to motivate a diverse team of staff, friends and volunteers. Highly developed specialist knowledge of the charities fundraising sector. Excellent communication abilities and the ability to build positive and effective working relationships with colleagues and other stakeholders. Financial acumen and budget management skills. Knowledge and understanding of fundraising strategies. Demonstrates a commitment to CAVUHB Values and Behaviours Evidence of operating with political sensitivity in high-profile settings.
