OverviewAssistant Directorate Manager - A&E Reception, Ward Clerks and Bed Bureau. Full time - 37.5 hours - Permanent. We are looking for a highly organised, motivated and efficient individual to join our Directorate within Clinical Support Services. The post holder will provide support to the Deputy Directorate Manager in the operational delivery and performance management of the Ward Clerk and A&E administrative services, ensuring key targets are maintained and sustained. The post holder will work as part of the management team to ensure sound administrative processes are in place to support clinical teams to achieve operational objectives in an efficient and effective way. The role oversees the day-to-day management of administration staff including appraisal and objective setting, recruitment and retention; experience in these areas is essential.The position will work with clinical teams to ensure services have the administrative workforce with the capacity and skills necessary to support and deliver high quality services. The successful candidate will be well organised and able to prioritise work and will manage services that operate 24/7, requiring a flexible approach to working hours and rotas.Job DetailsDate posted 12 December 2025Pay scheme Agenda for changeBand Band 5Salary £31,049 to £37,796 per annumContract PermanentWorking pattern Full-time, Flexible workingLocation Tameside Hospital, Fountain Street, Ashton under Lyne, OL6 9RWMain dutiesResponsible for the day to day management of all Ward Clerks and A&E based administration staff supporting clinical staff in the delivery of services.Work with clinical teams to ensure services have the administrative workforce with the capacity and skills required.Manage and develop administrative processes in line with service requirements and local/national policies.Oversee rotas or systems to meet workload demands and cover short-notice leave.Support manager and staff to review, develop and implement processes and systems.Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication and the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines; line management responsibilities apply.QualificationsEssentialEducated to degree level or relevant equivalent skills & experience (e.g., 5 years' experience of managing Administration & Clerical services within a large organisation).High standard of education (A levels).High level of computer skills.DesirableProject management qualification.Skills/Experience/KnowledgeProven planning and organisational skills within a complex environment.Knowledge of operational management within an NHS healthcare setting.Previous management or supervisory experience.Minimum of 12 months experience of day-to-day A&C management including appraisal and objective setting, recruitment and retention.Understanding of performance targets and use of related data.Experience of working under pressure and to tight deadlines.Ability to prioritise own workload with minimal supervision.Good written and verbal communication; ability to analyse and report data.Ability to use word processing, spreadsheets, Internet and e-mail applications.Knowledge of admin procedures; experience handling difficult operational issues is desirable.High level of computer literacy and accurate data entry.Personal QualitiesExcellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills.Highly motivated and resourceful.Diplomacy, confidentiality and discretion in handling information.Ability to work autonomously as well as within a team.Flexible and adaptable with willingness to work outside normal hours on occasions.Organised and methodical, with the ability to follow procedures and systems.About UsTameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust serves a community of 250,000 people across Tameside & Glossop.
