Main duties of the job We are looking for Senior sister/Senior charge's nurse to join to work with us in Medicine for Older People, here at University Hospital Southampton (UHS) NHS Foundation Trust. In Medicine for Older People, we provide specialised high quality care for patients predominantly in patients over the age of 80. The successful applicant will be an experienced band 5 registered adult nurse looking for leadership and managerial responsibilities, or an existing band 6 looking for a new challenge. Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities As a sister/charge nurse you will deputise for the ward leader by effectively leading a team, facilitating in the delivery of high quality care, providing support for staff, patients and relatives, whilst maintain a safe environment. What We’re Looking For As a part of the ward leadership team; You will provide senior support to the G7 team and assist the Band 7 in running the service day to day. You will provide ongoing evidence-based compassionate care for elderly patients with variety of physical and cognitive impairments. To take charge of the ward on a regular basis. You will be involved in service improvement projects to develop the evolving service. You will manage a team through change, where you’ll need to demonstrate excellent communication, clinical decision‑making, professional development and a strong commitment to developing others. You will have an understanding of how to improve and provide safe, quality care for patients and their relatives. Work closely with multiple teams, from therapy, adult community services, discharge teams etc. Proficient in medication administration including IV's. IV skills including cannulation and phlebotomy. Be a practice assessor for students and a sign off assessor for multiple competencies to help upskill staff. To inform the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse of any complaints or adverse events received, reporting on what action has been taken, in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
