Senior Mechanical Engineer - Water & Environmental Projects

Help shape a more sustainable future

Are you a Mechanical Engineer who wants your work to make a genuine difference to the environment and local communities? Join a leading environmental consultancy that's driving positive change through innovation in water and sustainability projects across the UK.
Based in Leeds (with flexible hybrid working), you'll be part of a collaborative, forward-thinking team committed to protecting natural resources, improving water systems, and creating resilient solutions for a changing climate.

The Opportunity:
In this role, you'll apply your mechanical engineering expertise to deliver practical, sustainable solutions for water and environmental infrastructure projects. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you'll help design and deliver projects that reduce environmental impact and support healthier ecosystems.
You'll report to the Head of MEICA and play a key role in developing mechanical designs, systems, and documentation that bring these vital projects to life. From improving water treatment facilities to supporting flood resilience schemes, your work will directly contribute to protecting communities and the planet.
They'll support you every step of the way with:

A generous training budget for your professional development and Chartership support
A flexible hybrid working model based around their Leeds office
A supportive, people-first culture within an established international consultancy that's serious about sustainability
About You:
You're a Mechanical Engineer who cares deeply about using your skills for good. You bring technical know-how, creativity, and a collaborative spirit and you want to see your work have a lasting, positive impact on the world around you.
While a background in the water sector is ideal, candidates from process industries such as petrochemical, oil and gas, steel, nuclear, or building services are also highly valued. The organisation is equally interested in engineers with strong mechanical foundations from sectors including HVAC and Building Services, Process or Chemical Engineering, Automotive, Aerospace, Industrial Design, Energy and Utilities, as well as those who have developed solid technical expertise through Technical Sales or Project Management roles with an engineering focus.

Essential Requirements:

Degree (BEng/MEng) or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Progress toward professional membership (IEng or CEng)
Strong grasp of core engineering principles and problem-solving skills
Knowledge of software such as DIALux and Amtech ProDesign.
Motivated, organised, and passionate about sustainability
Your Role:

Create and contribute to key mechanical engineering deliverables, including P&IDs, mechanical schedules, pump system calculations, and datasheets.
Collaborate with environmental and civil engineering teams to ensure solutions are technically sound, efficient, and sustainable.
Represent the MEICA team in project and client meetings, ensuring environmental and engineering excellence throughout delivery.
Play an active part in driving innovation and climate-conscious design approaches.
Ready to Engineer a Better Tomorrow?
If you're passionate about protecting the environment and want to use your engineering skills to create real impact, I'd love to hear from you. Get in touch for an informal chat or to find out more about this opportunity.
