Practice Nurse – NHS Join to apply for the Practice Nurse role at NHS. Job Summary • The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe and effective general nursing care to the practice population, working collaboratively with the whole practice. The role includes routine nursing duties, supporting practice partners and the clinical team, and contributing to the achievement of clinical indicators across all programmes. Responsibilities Implementation of processes for the effective management of patients with long‑term conditions, childhood vaccinations & immunisations, and screening programmes. Provide health promotion, chronic disease management, and health prevention services; support the management team in reviewing clinical policy and procedure. Offer advice on childhood and adult vaccinations and ensure vaccines are administered safely following protocols. Run well‑person clinics and health promotion programmes, offering holistic assessment and lifestyle advice regarding diet, smoking, alcohol intake and exercise. Document consultations in accordance with NMC guidelines and maintain accurate records of informed consent. Ensure awareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures, including referral systems and the recognition of child abuse signs and symptoms. Perform cervical cytology smear assessments, venepuncture, ECGs and nebular therapy as required. Recognise and manage anaphylaxis and perform CPR according to current UK guidelines. Assist in providing minor surgery and, where trained, use specific patient group directives (PGDs). Maintain infection control guidelines, monitor stock and equipment, and ensure confidentiality of patient information. Contribute to the assessment of service needs, patient health needs, and the Practice development plan. Attend staff meetings, support the Clinical Governance agenda, and identify changes to clinical practice based on evidence‑based guidelines. Participate in clinical supervision, continuous education, and maintain contemporary professional knowledge and skills. Maintain good industrial relations, promote a learning environment, and support colleagues’ training and development needs. Uphold confidentiality, reporting obligations, and data protection principles when handling patient and practice information. Assist in promoting and maintaining personal, staff, and organisational health, safety, and security as per the Practice Health & Safety Policy. Support equality, diversity, and rights of patients, carers, and colleagues, ensuring compliance with legislation and practice procedures. Participate in annual performance reviews and take responsibility for personal development and learning. Strive to maintain quality within the practice, identify quality and risk issues, manage workload, and collaborate with other agencies to meet patient needs. Communicate effectively with team members, patients, and carers, recognising alternative communication needs. Apply Practice policies, standards and guidance; participate in audit where appropriate. Qualifications & Experience Essential: NMC registered, experience working within a nursing team. Desirable: experience working in a GP practice. UK professional registration required. Additional Requirements Must undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 compliance needed.
