This specialist SEMH school in Gateshead is searching for a calm, confident and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant to join their team, working 1:1 with a pupil who needs consistent, trusting support. This isn’t just classroom work, it’s relationship building, helping a young person feel safe, understood and ready to learn. What you’ll be doing Providing steady, tailored 1:1 support for a pupil with social, emotional and mental health needs Using de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed practice to guide behaviour positively Working closely with teachers, the SENCo and pastoral staff to create a safe routine Supporting with transitions, movement breaks and personalised learning activities Helping the pupil build confidence, emotional resilience and a sense of belonging What the school is looking for Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour A calm, patient approach with genuinely strong relationship‑building skills Someone who can stay steady when days feel a bit messy A team player who understands the importance of consistency in specialist settings What you’ll get from Protocol Education Weekly PAYE pay, no umbrella headaches Free access to our CPD academy with behaviour, SEND and safeguarding training A supportive consultant who knows the Gateshead SEN landscape inside out Opportunities to progress into long‑term and permanent roles in specialist settings Quick question… Are you Thrive trained?If not, we can get you access to FREE Thrive training, which schools absolutely love and which will make your profile really stand out.
