Are you passionate about developing your career as a Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist in Eating Disorders? We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our Trust-wide Adult Eating Disorders Service (AEDS) working in our Enhanced Treatment Team. The development of the ETT is an exciting new multi-disciplinary initiative. This new intensive treatment pathway aims to reduce hospital admissions and to provide an alternative to day care for initial stabilisation purposes when needed.

Position Details

Location: Primarily based within our Enhanced Treatment Team (ETT) at Farnham Road Hospital, Guildford, with occasional work from our Epsom site and other hub locations. The role includes completing home visits as part of your duties.

Career Development: We are committed to supporting your growth and development, with the potential to advance to a Band 7 Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist.

Team Environment: You will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to pioneering innovative approaches to meet the occupational needs of our service users, ensuring high-quality service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide high quality and evidence-based occupational therapy assessment and interventions, both group and individual, to people who access AEDS and ETT services and their carers/supporters/family members, in line with the occupational therapy pathways.
  • To communicate effectively with people who access services, carers, the multi-disciplinary team and when appropriate outside agencies.
  • To contribute to the generic functioning of the team.
  • To provide supervision and mentoring to more junior occupational therapists, occupational therapy apprenticeships, support workers and activities coordinators (as appropriate).
  • To provide occupational therapy student placements.
  • To contribute to service development and audits.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • To plan and deliver a highly specialist occupational therapy service (in leadership or advanced therapy role) and to oversee its clinical governance.
  • To contribute to the professional leadership and continued development of a team/service.
  • To provide appraisal, supervision, career development support and mentoring for junior qualified and unqualified staff.
  • To contribute to the skill development of more junior colleagues within the AEDS service by offering clinical supervision (individual or group).
  • To support the AEDS ETT Lead in developing and delivering training presentations.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • To provide highly specialist assessments and interventions for people presenting with complex eating disorders.
  • To demonstrate highly specialist expertise and specialist occupational therapy skills in areas such as occupational engagement, environmental adaptation, development and maintenance of skills needed for meaningful participation.
  • To evaluate the effectiveness of team and occupational therapy interventions.

Professional Responsibilities:

  • To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of clinical work and care.
  • To maintain high standards of care in all areas of practice in accordance with the HCPC Code of Conduct, professional guidelines and Trust Policies and Procedures.
