OverviewAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to join our dynamic multi-disciplinary team based in Barking and Dagenham. NELFT is an experienced provider of Mental Health Services for Children and Young People, already delivering services in Essex, Medway and four London boroughs. It is one of England’s largest NHS Foundation Trusts. Our priority is providing the highest standard of care to all of our service users. We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, and skilled clinician who can maintain clinical curiosity, engage in reflective practice, and advocate for children, young people and families’ needs. You will be a highly motivated and innovative individual with extensive clinical experience working with children and young people with emotional wellbeing and mental health difficulties. We have partnered with the University of Cambridge to drive excellence and research in paediatric autism, presenting an opportunity to foster and develop research and innovation in our emotional and mental health services, working closely with paediatric, autism and wider children’s services. We are willing to consider applicants with less than 2 years NHS experience (or equivalent) who wish to apply for this post on a developmental basis.ResponsibilitiesTo provide specialist clinical psychology input to children and young people and their familiesTo provide specialist psychological assessment and therapy including specialist assessments for neurodevelopmental concerns (e.g. ASD and ADHD)To offer advice and consultation on client’s psychological care to colleagues from all disciplines and to individuals external to CAMHS, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team’s policies and proceduresTo work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of one’s psychological practiceRoutinely measure clinical outcomes and deliver evidence-based clinical interventions in line with the CAMHS programme within B&DPromote the mental and emotional health of children, young people and families in the community through clinical interventions in the care pathwayUndertake initial school-based and community-based assessments and deliver a range of early interventions to children and young people with emotional and psychological difficulties where appropriateProvide clinical leadership and specialist treatment and assessment within your professional sphere of expertise in the service and be responsible for the extensive clinical supervision of junior clinicians throughout the CAMHS teamQualifications and RequirementsExperience as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist with children and young peopleExperience in neurodevelopmental assessments (e.g. ASD and ADHD) and delivering psychological therapiesAbility to work autonomously within professional guidelines and contribute to governance of psychological practiceExperience delivering and supervising a range of therapeutic interventions (including parent work, group work, school observations, short-term input, and specialist behavioural and psychological treatments)Desirable: prior CAMHS experience, safeguarding, risk, and neurodevelopmental concernsWe are open to applicants with less than 2 years NHS experience (or equivalent) applying on a developmental basisWhat We Offer and Additional InformationOur Values 2025 - 2030: We have co-produced three values to embed within our culture: We are kind, We are respectful, We work together with our communities. Induction is at our head office in Rainham, Essex.Probationary Period: This post will be subject to a probationary period.High Cost Area Supplement (Outer London): This post attracts a High Cost Area Supplement (HCAS) of 15% of the basic salary (minimum £4,313 to maximum £5,436 per annum pro rata for part time).Additional notes: Previous experience within CAMHS settings (especially safeguarding, risk, and neurodevelopmental concerns) would be advantageous. The post holder will ensure a high quality, timely, accessible and evidence-based service across CAMHS, and will establish and maintain strong links with education, mental health, wellbeing and learning disability support services.
