An exciting opportunity has arisen for 1 band 6 post, 30 hours per week. We are looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking, self-motivated individual to join our Ward 14 senior nursing team.

Job Summary

ACUTE CARE OF THE ELDERLY - Ward 14

The successful candidates will have responsibility for providing leadership to the team ensuring that care standards are monitored and maintained at the highest level as well as working collaboratively with members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide a quality service for patients.

As a Charge nurse/ Ward Sister you will have proven organizational and management skills and will be able to motivate and effectively lead the ward team in delivering high-quality care to our patients. You will be a clinical role model and have a willingness to develop the team as well as your own professional growth.

Main Duties of the Job
  1. To be responsible for the planning, provision and delivery of an effective, 24-hour nursing service for the ward/department area.
  2. To manage, support and develop the ward/department team and ensure that nursing practice and procedures conform to identified NMC and Trust policies and standards.
  3. To be a role model for all staff and ensure that the ward environment is a safe and effective learning area for staff and student nurses.
  4. To be an advanced clinical practitioner and support and direct the educational and training needs of the nursing team to enable the provision of a patient-focused, evidence/research-based nursing service.
  5. To be responsible for making the patient the focus of care within the ward environment.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Continually assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based programmes of care in order to ensure the provision of a high standard of care.
  2. Personally deliver a high standard of care to a group of patients, acting as a team leader/named nurse and clinical role model at all times.
  3. Ensure the provision of advice, support and health information to patients and their carers in order to promote a health-based service.
  4. Transport/manage people and/or items such as equipment or specimens safely and to time consistent with legislation, policies and procedures.
  5. Maintain accurate and legible records of all clinical and legal documentation to include accident/incident reporting, with regard to NMC, statutory and Trust policies.
  6. Ensure all aspects of clinical care including interventions and investigations are performed, assessed and reported upon in a timely fashion and in a manner consistent with legislation, policy and procedures.
Person SpecificationQualifications and Training

Essential:

  • Registered Nurse Level 1 Register
  • 1st Level Degree or equivalent
  • Teaching and assessing qualification

Desirable:

  • Specialist course

Experience

Essential:

  • Significant post-registration experience
  • Experience of working within the multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of liaising with other agencies

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in the specialty

Knowledge

Essential:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the relevant NICE guidance
  • Evidence of continued professional development of self and other healthcare professionals

Desirable:

  • IT skills Knowledge of research and audit
