We are recruiting Learning Support Assistants for a specialist school in Maidenhead, supporting children and young people with autism, sensory needs, learning disabilities and—importantly—many who are non-verbal or have limited verbal communication. You’ll learn how to understand behaviour as communication and how to create safe, trusting relationships. Whether you come from care, support work, or are exploring a future career in psychology, social work or SEND education—this role offers hands-on experience that matters. What you’ll be doing Supporting pupils 1:1 or in small groups Helping pupils communicate in the ways that work best for them—gestures, visuals, AAC, PECS, etc. Encouraging emotional regulation and independence Assisting with personal care, feeding or mobility needs (full training given) Keeping pupils safe, calm, supported and engaged Working with teachers and therapy teams to follow personalised support plans Your encouragement might be the reason a non-verbal child feels understood—for some children, that’s life-changing. What we’re looking for You don’t need school experience—your care experience, empathy and willingness to learn are what matter most.
