Description The job itselfAbout the roleWe are seeking a supportive and reliable individual to assist a young person in accessing community activities and developing social connections. The role involves providing encouragement, guidance, and practical support to help them participate in clubs and groups, such as football and other recreational activities.About the IndividualThe young person enjoys football, building with Lego, collecting Hot Wheels cars, playing on a Nintendo Switch, and spending time outdoors. They would like to join local clubs and social groups but require assistance to do so.They have autism, which means new environments and busy settings can feel overwhelming. Meeting new people can be challenging at first, but once comfortable, they are friendly, have a great sense of humor, and enjoy sharing jokes. They benefit from clear explanations and a patient approach to help them feel calm and confident when trying new things.Experience with autism or SEND would be beneficial. A full driving license is desirable to support travel to activities. The role requires someone who is dependable and genuinely enjoys working with children.The times can be flexible, such as after school, weekends, and school holidays. Support will be required around Hedon and surrounding areas.The successful candidate will be responsible for:Encouraging the recipient to engage in activities.Helping to improve their social skills.Settling and supporting the individual.Keeping them safe in the community.Helping to fulfil their potential and aspirations.Attending/transporting the individual to social activities and appointments.Encouraging social interaction and inclusion and providing emotional support.About the candidateThe suitable candidate must:Be conscientious and committed to providing support as necessary for the child.Be patient, caring and understanding.Be able to build a positive relationship with the child to both encourage and support them.Be flexible to meet the needs of the family.Have knowledge of working with or supporting a child with special needs.
