Responsibilities - Lead the commercial strategy on bids, ensuring proposals are innovative, competitive, and aligned with client expectations. - Oversee the legal and contractual aspects of tenders, balancing "top-down" winning price strategies with "bottom-up" cost analysis. - Introduce fresh thinking to pricing models, supply chain utilisation, and project delivery methods to maximise value and margin. - Work collaboratively across Operations, Procurement, Estimating, and Design teams to deliver robust, high-quality submissions. - Ensure all commercial outputs and bids adhere to internal governance and quality assurance processes. - Present proposals confidently to clients and senior stakeholders, clearly communicating commercial rationale and value propositions. - Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their priorities and decision-making drivers. - Maintain tender risk and opportunity registers, implementing strategies to enhance win probability. - Partner with Proposals and Marketing teams to develop engaging, high-scoring submissions that stand out competitively. - Manage and mentor a small commercial team, fostering accountability, performance, and professional growth. ________________________________________ Who We're Looking For Essential Experience & Skills - Proven track record as a Commercial Manager leading large-scale bids or tenders. - Demonstrable success in innovative pricing and proposal development that improves competitiveness. - Ability to engage cross-functional teams and meet demanding deadlines without compromising quality. - Broad commercial understanding, with solid grounding in contracts and legal frameworks (NEC experience advantageous). - Excellent organisation, attention to detail, and time management skills. - Resilient and proactive approach, able to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Desirable - Background in highway infrastructure, maintenance, or scheme delivery. - Degree or equivalent qualification in a commercial, business, or related discipline.
