Behaviour Support Assistant – The Calm, Steady Presence Every School Needs £90 to £110 per daySome pupils don’t just need help with learning, they need help with the day. Someone who can guide them through tricky moments, help them regulate their emotions, and show them that school can be a safe and predictable place. If that sounds like you, this role could be a perfect match. This Northumberland secondary school is incredibly community-driven, with a pastoral team that genuinely cares about the wellbeing of every student. They’re looking for a Behaviour Support Assistant who understands that behaviour is communication, and who can offer calm consistency to young people who find school a challenge. You’ll work closely with the pastoral leads, the SENDCo, and teaching staff to support pupils who struggle with focus, confidence, routine, or emotional regulation. Some students might need quiet reassurance, some might need firm boundaries delivered kindly, and some just need someone who believes in them when they don’t quite believe in themselves yet.The school will never drop you in the deep end. You’ll receive guidance, context, and support from a team who understand behaviour deeply and want staff to succeed as much as pupils. They take pride in building strong, positive relationships rather than relying on punitive systems. In this role, you will: • Support pupils 1:1 and in small groups • Help students manage emotions and transitions • Use restorative, relational approaches to behaviour • Support teachers within the classroom to maintain calm learning • Work with pastoral leaders to plan proactive interventionsIf you’ve worked in youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, support work, or any role where relationships matter, you’ll bring so much value here. This is a role where small wins feel huge and every day gives you the chance to make a young person feel seen and supported. All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date. Protocol Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
