Technical Jobs Manchester, England £35000 - £38000 per annum Permanent Apply Now Paint Development Chemist A leading award-winning British paint manufacturer has an immediate requirement for an experienced, self-motivated and innovative Paint Development Chemist to join their team near Manchester. Key Skills: Paint Chemist, Development Chemist, decorative paint market, coatings Location: Manchester, M12 5ED Salary: Circa £38,000 benefits Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, you will be required to carry out work in multiple areas of Research and Development. This will include product improvement, routine testing and troubleshooting, evaluation of products, sourcing and testing raw materials, developing manufacturing procedures, quality systems, R&D systems and documentation. Some knowledge of Colour Physics would also be very useful. As Paint Development Chemist you will ideally have an understanding of the decorative paint market and proven experience in the paint/coatings industry. Requirements * Experience in Surface Coatings preferably decorative paints. * A degree or higher science qualification. * Understanding of the decorative paint market. * Proven problem solving experience again preferably in the coatings industry. * Some travel is required in the role so a full UK driving licence would be advantageous. Key Responsibilities * To assist in the routine operation at the R&D Laboratory. * To develop new formulations and produce samples. * To plan a pilot plant and scale up of products from laboratory trials through to the handover into the production facility. * To analyse and evaluate raw materials and competitor products. * Investigate and formulate improvement of products and manufacturing processes and assist with their implementation. * Investigate solutions to problems in production, laboratory and the field, make recommendations to the Laboratory Manager, and liaise with other staff in remedying problems. * To develop an understanding of research, produce reports (verbal and written) to management board, and to communicate the results of research. * To become familiar with and actively support all provisions of the Quality System appropriate to the responsibility of this position. * Colour matching and Quality Control of colour experience would be an advantage.
