Despatch Manager Contract Type: Permanent Location: Walsall - West Midlands Industry: Supply Chain & Procurement Contact Name: Mark Dawson Contact Email: Contact Phone: 0121 236 1662 Date Published: 19-Jun-2024 A manufacturer of steel construction-related products supplied nationally, is now seeking a Despatch Manager to join their business based near Walsall. The company has been operating for over 50 years and has several facilities across the black country. The business has been ticking along for the last few years, but due to a surge in business, turnover has doubled. This has generated the need for some key hires to make improvements and bring the company into the 21 st century with new systems, processes, and modern ways of working and driving down costs. This is a brand-new position in the business, developed to support the Production Manager in reaching the companies production targets OTIF (On time in full) and within budget. The overall Production team is made up on around 80 skilled individuals including Welders, Fabricators, Metal workers, Machinists and Logistics staff. Reporting to the Production Manager, as the Despatch Manager , you will ensure this facility delivers on the growth it is experiencing. You will lead a team of around 10 people within the facility to ensure that your customers receive their orders OTIF, and of the highest quality. You will take charge of the product after assembly, performing quality checks and ensuring that the product is packaged correctly, loaded up for delivery. Some of the main responsibilities of this Despatch Manager are listed below: Working with the production team to ensure that they build orders against the production and delivery schedule Conduct quality assessments of each order, ensuring that the product is free from defects and able to be despatched to customers Take responsibility for goods in, despatch, and the yard. Ensuring health and safety procedures are always adhered to Work with the wider production team and business, making sure that your team has the right materials and tools to do the job in an effective and cost-efficient way Training, developing and mentoring your team, working with them and the business to deliver any training plans to ensure the team is hight skilled, motivated and capable. Budget Management – Ensuring the department is run to budget and where possible delivering cost savings What you will need to be a successful Despatch Manager Prior experience in leading stores and logistics teams. The ability to manage people effectively within a fast paced, high pressure logistics environment Strong customer service skills, the ability to understand each customers packaging and delivery requirements Strong communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships across the business On offer for the successful Despatch Manager: A competitive salary and benefits package.
