About the role as a SEND teaching assistantWe are looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students with social, emotional and mental health needs in specialist schools across Newcastle. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a real difference in children’s lives and supporting their wellbeing and learning.What you’ll be doing as a Send Teaching Assistant -Provide 1:1 support to a student with Special Educational Needs and Social emotional mental health needs in a specialist provisionFollow individual education plans and agreed behaviour strategies so the pupil can learn and feel safe Help create a classroom environment that’s supportive, structured, and fully inclusiveEncourage the pupil to build confidence, social skills, and emotional regulationRespond to challenging behaviour with confidence, using de-escalation techniques when neededWork closely with teachers, the SENCO, and wider professionals to support the pupil’s overall development Role requirements as a Send Teaching Assistant Experience working with children with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour.Knowledge of SEND Code of Practice and safeguarding proceduresInterpersonal and have excellent communication skills.Confident in working in a challenging environment.Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO’S and other school staffMonitor and report on student progress, engagement and behaviour.Assist in planning and deliver learning materials tailored to the individual needs.
