We are recruiting Learning Support Assistants on behalf of a specialist education setting in Reading. This role offers hands-on experience supporting children and young people with autism, communication differences, sensory needs and learning disabilities. You will work closely with teachers and therapists, using creativity and patience to help pupils express themselves, develop confidence and build essential life skills. Whether you have experience in support work or are an Art graduate exploring future careers in education, creative therapies or SEND, this role offers a rewarding and structured environment to grow professionally. Art Graduate – Learning Support Assistant Reading – Education and Training Why This Role Is Ideal for Art Graduates This role is perfect for individuals with backgrounds in Art, Fine Art, Illustration, Design, Creative Arts, Psychology, Creative Therapies, or anyone who loves working creatively with young people. It allows you to: Use your creativity to support pupils’ emotional expression, communication and self-confidence. Build valuable experience for careers in Art Therapy, teaching, creative education, youth work or therapeutic services. Work alongside teachers and therapy teams to understand SEN, behaviour and child development. Facilitate creative, sensory or visual activities that help pupils regulate emotions and stay engaged. Develop practical skills in supporting young people with autism, communication needs and learning differences. Build a strong foundation for postgraduate training in Art Therapy or related pathways. This role is an excellent stepping stone for anyone considering creative or therapeutic work with children. What You Will Be Doing Supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis throughout the school day Assisting with creative, sensory and structured activities that promote communication and independence Encouraging emotional regulation using calming, visual or artistic approaches Helping with personal care, feeding or mobility needs where required (full training provided) Working collaboratively with teachers and therapists on individual support plans Ensuring pupils are safe, calm and engaged in learning and creative tasks Your creativity and encouragement can make a lasting difference. We Would Love to Hear From You If You Have: A qualification or strong interest in Art, Design, Creative Arts or related fields Experience supporting children, young people or vulnerable individuals (paid or voluntary) A genuine passion for helping pupils express themselves and build confidence Patience, resilience and a calm, positive approach Strong communication and teamwork skills A willingness to learn and develop within a school environment School-based experience is not required—your creativity, empathy and willingness to support young people matter most.
