Job summary We are looking for a radiographer or technologist with a special interest and experience in Nuclear Medicine or PET imaging.
You will have worked or trained in Nuclear Medicine (and/or PET) and will be familiar with imaging protocols and radiation protection matters in this field.
PET work in the department is growing and we already perform a wide range of studies using Gallium-68 and Fluorine-18 tracers including FDG, fluoride, PSMA and Dota-peptide.
The department has a modern auto dose dispenser/injector and is well equipped with a Siemens mCT flow scanner.
A new PET centre is in the final stages of planning and upon completion the team will move into a new modern, state of the art department with 2 digital systems based on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site.
The department operates over extended days and works alternate Saturday shifts.
There are opportunities for overtime working.
Main duties of the job The post-holder is a member of a multidisciplinary team that provides diagnostic procedures directly to patients.
They have responsibility for performing a wide range of diagnostic PET/CT procedures on patients of all ages and who are suffering a wide range of illness, including cancer.
They will be actively involved in the dispensing and administration of sterile radioactive materials; acquisition of imaging data, analysing and the disposal of radioactive waste material.
As a senior member of staff they are required to work unsupervised and to also provide direct and indirect supervision to more junior staff.
They will take an active role in the organisation of the routine daily workload of the department, liaising with other technologists, and medical, nursing and clerical staff.
The post-holder works in a highly specialised area which requires consideration of the risks of radiation and cross infection together with the empathy and skill to help patients through difficult and complex procedures.

*Post Graduate Diploma or equivalent level of knowledge.
*Evidence of Continual Professional.
Development (CPD) Registered HCPC Clinical Diagnostic Radiographer.
Experience Essential *PET or Nuclear Medicine Experience.
* Ability to carry out specialist.
procedures with highly complex equipment, adapting protocols where necessary.
*Experience of working within a quality management system.
*Demonstrates a high degree of theoretical and practical knowledge relating to the hazards posed by and the precautions required when dealing with ionising radiation arising from sealed and unsealed radioactive sources and patients.
*Has a high degree of theoretical and practical knowledge of radiation protection issues and radioactive decontamination.
*Has an understanding of patient, staff and public risks arising from radiation exposure.
*Has knowledge of the underpinning legislation relating to nuclear medicine , Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017, Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017, Environmental Permitting Regulations 2016, National Regulations for the Transport of Radioactive Substances, Administration of Radioactive Substances Advisory Committee (ARSAC) guidelines.
*Knowledge of the safe use of expensive and highly complex imaging, non-imaging and related equipment (>50,000).
*Has knowledge of an NHS working environment within the field.
*Has a working knowledge of a range of specialist practice relating to: oPerformance of a wide range of diagnostic nuclear medicine imaging procedures.
oThe performance of a wide range of diagnostic non-imaging procedures.
oThe analysis of diagnostic imaging and non-imaging patient data using complex computer programs.
o The performance of intravenous administration of a wide range of diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals.
Desirable *Significant PET and Nuclear Medicine.
*Extensive experience with NHS/ Alliance/ InHealth.
*Experience of dispensing and administering diagnostic PET Radiopharmaceuticals.
Additional Criteria Essential *Able to use analytical and judgemental skills.
This will include the manipulation and analysis of diagnostic imaging data for a range of PET investigations.
*Able to recognise technical faults or abnormal results.
*Able to deal with unpredictable technical/clinical situations.
*Able to plan and organise the daily routine.
*Team working & motivational skills.
*Supervisory skills required for dealing with junior staff, trainees, supernumerary students, patient escorts and visitors.
*Able to manage and prioritise own work and that of junior staff.
*Able to supervise junior Clinical Technologists/ Radiographers in all aspects of diagnostic PET CT imaging.
*Able to use and manipulate complex software packages for the acquisition and processing of patient imaging data.
*Able to use and manipulate Word, Excel and PowerPoint, e-mail and internet search engines.
*Able to use database management systems Radiology Management System.
*Able to communicate (verbally/written) accurate and sometimes complex information to all staff groups where the subject matter is unfamiliar ( issues relating to the use of radioactive substances administered to inpatients).
*Able to communicate detailed, accurate, sensitive and sometimes complex information to patients undergoing diagnostic investigation procedures.
*Able to communicate appropriately in difficult, pressured or unpredictable situations and circumstances.
