Job summary Permanent, fixed term & secondment opportunities availableThe Critical Care Complex at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital are recruiting for challenging, yet highly rewarding positions as Deputy Sisters/Charge Nurses.As a Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse and a part of the Critical Care team you will be providing care to the most vulnerable patients in the hospital at the most critical and life altering times.
You should therefore be able to demonstrate a calm, composed and caring approach whilst working under pressure.We are looking to recruit motivated and dynamic leaders who can bring enthusiasm and extensive Critical Care knowledge to our busy Critical Care.If you are considering applying for this post on a secondment basis, please discuss with your Line Manager prior to applying to ascertain whether this could be supported.
Main duties of the job The Critical Care Complex is a 28 bedded unit that provides care to patients requiring level 2 and 3 support from a variety of specialties; post-operative care for major surgeries, organ support for both Medical and Surgical patients and emergencies from the Emergency Department.Our team of over 170 Nurses and 14 Critical Care Consultants are supported by a range of other healthcare professionals to deliver care to our patients.
We all work as a highly skilled, supportive, multi-disciplinary team.The post holders will be responsible for promoting and implementing practice conducive to the development of high-quality patient care by providing professional, clinical, and managerial leadership.
Successful candidates will be required to take charge of areas and provide support and guidance to all staff; working closely with the Band 7 team and Matron.The successful candidates should have extensive recent experience within a comparable Critical Care setting and should have a post registration qualification in the specialty.Due to the 24 hour service provided by the department, you will be required to work fully flexible shifts including nights, weekends and bank holidays.

Ensure practice is in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and work within limits of competence.Assist the Senior Nursing Team in maintaining standards of nursing practice.Carry out and advise/supervise junior staff in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluating of nursing care.Carry out the daily personal care of patients.To take charge of the clinical area.To ensure the patient administration systems PAS are up-dated to ensure real time data collection and confidentiality.To ensure the effective use of information technology for the benefit of patient care in accordance with the Trusts Cyber Code of Conduct.To ensure the confidentiality of information (written, verbal, electronic) is maintained, whilst being aware of the Freedom for Information Act.To co-ordinate and monitor the progress of patients within their plan of care and to promptly and effectively communicate relevant changes in patient status to the multi-disciplinary team.Effectively communicate complex, sensitive or contentious information to the multi-disciplinary team gaining their co-operation.Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers, significant others, the multi-disciplinary team and support services.To ensure that all staff adhere to Trust policies and the principles of their professional body.To manage complaints in accordance with the Trusts Complaints Procedure.To assist in the development of patient information liaising with PALS as necessary.Use leadership skills to create an environment that is safe and supportive to ensure effective teamwork and a motivated, efficient workforce.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC register Have a post registration qualification relevant to Critical Care; the Critical Care Course Experience Essential Significant experience at Band 5 level, of which some is to be in a position relevant to the specialty.
