Job summary Applicationsare invited for Trust Doctor (TD) positions within the Specialty and IntegratedMedicine Clinical Service Unit (CSU) at St Jamess University Hospital (SJUH),Leeds.
They are ideally suited to junior doctors who have completed Foundationand / or Internal Medicine Training but have yet to decide their chosen careerpathway or who are not yet ready to enter a formal training scheme.OurTD posts, which are fixed-term from 3rd February 2025 to 5th August 2025, aredesigned to provide a wide range of clinical experience in Acute, General, andElderly Medicine.
Successful applicants will be given an opportunity to workwithin our Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) service, on our Acute Medical Units,and on our in-patient Specialty Wards.
Excellent training will therefore beprovided in the management of acutely unwell and deteriorating patients,Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment, rehabilitation, multidisciplinaryteamworking, and discharge planning.EachTrust Doctor will be allocated a named Educational Supervisor with whom theywill develop a tailored Personal Development Plan.
Opportunities will beprovided to join our audit, quality improvement, and clinical governanceprogramme.
There are excellent training facilities at SJUH and, across the CSU,educational meetings are held on most days of the week.
Main duties of the job Post-holderswill contribute to all aspects of the Specialty and Integrated Medicineservice.
We expect a particular focus on Good clinical care Maintaining good medical practice; Good relationships and communicationwith patients; Good working relationships withcolleagues; Good teaching and training; Professional behaviour and probity.Theideal applicants for these positions will therefore be able to demonstrateexcellent clinical, interpersonal and communication skills.
They will be ableto work cooperatively with colleagues across our multidisciplinary teams,managing their time effectively.
The successful applicants will be committed toproviding expert medical care, including discharge planning, in patientspresenting with a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.Post-holderswill be asked to contribute to an out-of-hours rota providing cover for SDECand medical admissions, as well as our in patient wards.
About us Youwill join the Specialty and Integrated Medicine Clinical Service Unit (CSU)which covers General Internal Medicine, Elderly Medicine, Diabetes &Endocrinology, and Infectious Diseases & Travel Medicine.
Most of ourdepartments are based at St Jamess University Hospital (SJUH), but we alsoprovide a Surgical Liaison service to three Orthopaedic wards (L09, L34 andL35) at Leeds General Infirmary (LGI, where this post will be based).Thedepartment is hard-working, friendly and co-operative.
There is a strong focuson continual improvement, multi-disciplinary teamwork, clinical excellence, andpatient safety and quality.Opportunitieswill be provided to join our audit, quality improvement, and clinicalgovernance programme.
There are excellent training facilities at both LGI andSJUH.
Across the CSU, educational meetings are held on most days of the week.

Job description Job responsibilities You will join the Specialtyand Integrated Medicine (SIM) and Urgent Care Clinical Service Units (CSUs) atSt Jamess University Hospital (SJUH) which together cover Acute InternalMedicine (AIM), General Internal Medicine (GIM), Elderly Medicine, Diabetes& Endocrinology, and Infectious Diseases & Travel Medicine.
Althoughpost-holders will undertake the majority of their clinical duties within theirchosen parent specialty, they may be asked to contribute to the care ofpatients in all of these areas from time-to-time.Our department atSJUH is currently based across Chancellors Wing and Gledhow Wing.
It comprisesfour Acute Medical Units (one of which incorporates a High Observation Unit(HOBS)), a Same Day Emergency Care service (with both a Medical Unit and OlderPersons Unit), two General Medicine / Diabetes & Endocrinology wards, fiveElderly Medicine wards, and an Infectious Diseases & Travel Medicine Unit.Excellent experiencewill be provided in ambulatory care, the management of acutely ill patients,Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment, on-going in-patient care, rehabilitation,and discharge planning.
Furthermore, we have very good links with Leeds CommunityHealthcare NHS Trust, especially with the Community Care Beds, and run a largenumber of specialist out-patient clinics.The department ishard-working, friendly and co-operative.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Holds an MB ChB or equivalent medical qualification.
Holds the MRCP(UK) diploma.
Desirable Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise from, the GMC at intended start date.
Be eligible to work in the UK.
Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills Essential Have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues.
Clinical Experience and Career Progression Essential At least 6-months' experience working within the NHS in Acute, General or Elderly Medicine.
Completion of Foundation Year 1 competencies or equivalent.
Clinical, Academic, and Personal Skills Essential Ability to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement to problems.
Ability to prioritise clinical need.
Ability to maximise safety and minimise risk.
Recognition of, and ability to undertake the initial management of, an acutely ill patient.
Desirable Demonstrates understanding of research, including awareness of ethical issues.
Demonstrates understanding of the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management, evidence-based practice, patient safety, and clinical quality improvement initiatives
