Thisis an exciting opportunity to join this dynamic department, in the vibrant cityof Leeds.
The successful candidate will become part of an enthusiastic anddedicated team of 7 consultants based at St. James University Hospital in theregional Specialist Infectious Diseases Centre.
TheInfectious Diseases department (known as Infection & Travel Medicine) isbased on ward J20,which is an 18 bedded ward including 14isolation rooms (4 with negative pressure).
The department has approximately 750 admissions per annum and is asecondary care facility for Leeds, as well as the regional MDR-TB centre andthe primary treatment centre for the West Yorkshire HIV network.Ajoint consults service is provided collaboratively with the departments ofMicrobiology and Virology, with regular complex infection MDTs as well as jointteaching and education events.
Thereis a well-established OPAT service, operating within an innovative partnershipwith Leeds Community Health NHS Trust, treating over 450 patients a year.INTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD VIA MS TEAMS:Tuesday 4 February 2025 Main duties of the job Thesuccessful applicant should possess MRCP (or equivalent) and should be includedon the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview,if currently within a training programme within the UK.
In accordance with the consultant appointmentregulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the SpecialistRegister.
Applicants should haveestablished skills in InfectiousDiseasesand its relatedspecialties including Microbiology, Virology, General (Internal) Medicine orGenitourinary Medicine.

Financiallysustainable Job description Job responsibilities In relation to this post,this is a10PA appointment for a Consultant in Infectious Diseases.
The post will bebased at St Jamess Hospital, Leeds General Infirmary & HIV outpatientservice sites.The Infectious Diseasesdepartment (known as Infection & Travel Medicine) in Leeds is based onward J20 within Gledhow Wing at St Jamess University Hospital and providesinpatient and outpatient services for the people of Leeds and surrounding areas.The 18 bed ward includes 14 isolation rooms (4 with negative pressure).Thedepartment provides a 7 day a week Infectious Diseases service to the WestYorkshire Region.
There are approximately 750 admissions per annumwhich are nearly all non-elective.
Patients are usually admitted from theTrusts A&E departments, and Medical Assessment Unit, but may be referredfrom other wards within the Trust and other hospitals within the region.
Thedepartment also works collaboratively with the department of microbiology to providea consults service for other departments in the Trust for diagnosis andmanagement of bacteraemias and complex infections.
Ward J20 acts as thePrimary Treatment Centre for the West Yorkshire Regional HIV Network, and so takes admissions of HIV patients fromaround the region.
It is also the regional centre for patients with multi-drugresistant tuberculosis.
The department provides significant outpatient activityin Infectious Diseases and HIV.
Thereis a well-established OPAT service run in partnership with Leeds CommunityHealth NHS Trust.

Person Specification Training, Research, Teaching & Audit Essential Should have completed a recognised training programme in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology/ Virology/ General (Internal) Medicine or equivalent.
Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.
Desirable Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.
Qualifications Essential MBChB/ MB BS or equivalent qualification.
MRCP or equivalent qualification.
Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
YOUR GMC NUMBER MUST BE STATED IN YOUR APPLICATION FORM TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE ROLE.
Eligibility to work in the UK.
Is up to date and fit to practise safely.
Desirable Relevant higher degree.
Experience Essential Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology/ Virology/ General (Internal) Medicine or equivalent.
Specifically, he/she must demonstrate higher training in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology/Virology/General Internal Medicine or equivalent.
Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.
Management, Interpersonal Skills & Other Requirements Essential Understanding of current issues in the NHS.
