Job summary The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is a modern forward thinking large teaching hospital employing 10,000 staff & offering a full medical service to a population of over 570,000.
It has strong links with both the School of Pharmacy with onsite teacher practitioner posts & the Medical School at the nearby University of East Anglia.
The Pharmacy Department provides a fully comprehensive pharmaceutical service across the Trust & to a number of external community units.
We are a large & very busy department with over 180 members of staff including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy assistants, admin clerical staff & apprentices.
There are many varied roles & we all work as a team to provide the different functions & services whilst maintaining a high level of patient care.Functions of the Pharmacy Department include the ordering, receipt & supply of medicines to wards & departments throughout the Trust & external units.
This includes dispensing for inpatients, outpatients, community units & supplying ward stocks averaging around 2,500 items a day.
Wards & external units are provided with a clinical service with pharmacists & pharmacy technicians an integral part of the multidisciplinary team.
The Pharmacy provides Aseptic Services such as the preparation & supply of chemotherapy & other sterile products.
We have a Quality Assurance team that works to ensure that our products are prepared & supplied to meet the highest quality standards.
Main duties of the job The successful applicant will join the clinical trials team who manage the clinical trial medicines dispensed to patients and will work closely with the haematology/oncology pharmacy team to deliver trials in the Trust.
The post holder will be involved in all aspect of clinical trials management and participate in meetings with research teams involving the set-up of new clinical trials.
The post holder will work closely with the lead clinical trials pharmacist to deliver the pharmacy clinical trials service.
Full clinical trials training and Good Clinical Practice training will be provided.
The postholder will also participate in the clinical ward service and drug history taking.
You should be dedicated, flexible and able to work in a high pressured, busy and demanding working environment.
You will need to be enthusiastic, have excellent communication and organisational skills and a genuine interest in developing your skills and knowledge.
You will be expected to use several computer-based systems and therefore will have good IT skills.All staff are required to participate in the weekend rota with corresponding time off during the week, currently 1 in 10.
All staff are required to undertake at least one public holiday duty per year.
All rotas are subject to review at any time.

To participate in and assist in the provision of pharmacy clinical trial services to the Trust in liaison with the Highly Specialist Pharmacist Clinical Trials.
To act as a specialist pharmacist providing an advanced level pharmacy clinical trials service to the trust.
To develop a highly specialist knowledge of clinical trials and provide expert advice to pharmacy, investigators, the research team and Research and Development in line with national regulations and ICH-GCP.
To actively participate in the Clinical Support Services Divisional Research Group and deputise for the Highly Specialist Pharmacist Clinical Trials at Research Governance.
To develop specialist knowledge of oncology and haematology trials and lead in the pharmacy set up of these trials including entering and validation of systemic clinical trial regimens in ARIA MedOncology.
To participate in and assist in the provision of clinical pharmacy services tothe Trust in liaison with the Clinical Pharmacy Team Leaders.
It is expected that this will be no more than 20% of the post holders contracted hours.
To undertake accreditation in the entry of chemotherapy regimens on ARIA and clinical checking of systemic anti-cancer treatments and maintain competence by taking part in clinical checking sessions with haematology/oncology team.
To act as a specialist pharmacist providing an advanced level clinical pharmacy service to a specified clinical speciality which involves a more complex/high risk patient population to optimising patient care with respect to medicines for patients in liaison with health care professionals, including medical and nursing staff.
To develop a highly specialist knowledge of the clinical speciality and treatment of co-morbidities to promote and support evidence based medicine within clinical speciality and across the Trust in order to fulfil the role as a pharmaceutical lead in the specified clinical area.
To initiate and actively implement service developments in a clinical speciality including pharmacy led service developments one stop dispensing, patient self-administration schemes and use of patients own drugs.
To provide expert and advanced evidence based information on medicines to patients, carers, prescribers and other healthcare staff within clinical speciality.
