General Manager

Working Hours: Monday to Friday
Salary: Up to £65,000
Location: Alfreton or Mansfield (on-site)

Job Description

Due to continued growth, our client is seeking an experienced General Manager to oversee the transport and warehouse operations at our Mansfield site. In this role, you'll have the autonomy to manage your team and depot while being supported by the board and head office systems. While you’ll be expected to maintain our core values and meet key performance indicators, the strategy and execution will be led by you.

Who Are We Looking For?

We’re looking for someone with natural leadership skills and the ability to take full ownership of their role. Strong commercial acumen paired with a growth-driven mindset is essential, as you will oversee all aspects of sales, recruitment, operations, legal compliance, administration, and financial performance for your cost centre. You will report directly to the Group Operations Director.

Key Responsibilities:

* Lead operations at our Mansfield site, managing both Sameday and Contract transport services as well as a busy warehouse.

* Adopt a hands-on approach by engaging with customers, pricing and planning jobs, and fostering relationships with subcontractors.

* Drive business growth by building networks and securing new contracts.

* Ensure exceptional customer service, building long-term partnerships through reliable delivery on promises.

* Take an active role in sales and commercial decision-making in the transport sector, identifying opportunities and closing deals.

Your performance will be measured by turnover and operating profit, with vehicle utilisation and business generation key to maximising the generous performance bonus.

Tools and Resources:

We operate a modern fleet and advanced IT systems, including Stream as our TMS, Mintsoft for WMS, and Webfleet for tracking and telematics. Experience with these systems is advantageous. You’ll also be supported by a dedicated Customer Service team, who will manage delivery updates, POD tracking, and fleet compliance, ensuring seamless operations.
