We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to work with children who have a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN), including autism, Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges, and attachment difficulties. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children who require additional support in both their learning and emotional development.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide tailored support to children with autism, SEMH needs, and attachment difficulties, helping them access the curriculum and thrive in a school environment.

Assist the class teacher in planning and delivering lessons that meet the individual needs of each child, ensuring they remain engaged and supported throughout the day.

Implement behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques, helping children regulate their emotions and manage any challenging behaviours.

Foster a nurturing and supportive relationship with the children, offering emotional support and building their confidence and self-esteem.

Work with the SENCO and class teacher to create and deliver individual learning plans, tailored to each child’s specific needs.

Support children in developing social skills and building positive relationships with their peers, helping them feel included in classroom activities.

Collaborate with the wider school team, including parents and external professionals, to ensure a consistent and supportive approach to each child’s development.

Essential Skills and Experience:

Experience working with children with autism, SEMH needs, and attachment difficulties, ideally in a school setting.

A strong understanding of strategies to support children with emotional and behavioural challenges, including the use of de-escalation and sensory support.

Patience, empathy, and the ability to build trusting relationships with children who require additional emotional and learning support.

Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team, collaborating effectively with teachers, SENCOs, and parents.

A proactive and flexible attitude, with the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the children and the classroom environment.

A DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is required for this role, or a willingness to obtain one.
