About the Role
Prevent is part of CONTEST, the Governments Counter Terrorism Strategy. The aim of Prevent is to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. This is done by challenging terrorist ideology; supporting vulnerable people and supporting sectors and institutions where there are risks of radicalisation. Building strong cohesive communities and developing positive working relationships across these communities is successful in this sphere.
The Prevent Engagement Officer has a high-profile responsibility for supporting and leading on engagement with communities and civil society groups across Haringey. The purpose of this is to support Prevent activity and strengthen community cohesion in order to increase people’s resilience to radicalisation. The Prevent Engagement Officer will identify vulnerabilities and risk, support communities and groups to develop and thrive.

About You
The successful applicant will be expected to demonstrate:
The ability to build strong relationships, encouraging co-operation and acting as the link between multiple contacts, both within and outside the Council.
Have demonstrable experience in community engagement and be comfortable with giving presentations and delivering training and workshops.
Excellent communication skills – interacting effectively with a range of partners, both in writing and orally.
Possess good knowledge and awareness of the government’s Prevent strategy, be politically aware and solve problems creatively whilst being informed by policy.

About the Team
The Safer Stronger Communities team is a busy and energetic team which includes various units such as ASB, Integrated Offender Management, Prevent, Hate Crime, Regulatory Services, and Waste Management. The post holder will work within a small, collaborative structure within the Community Safety Team and engage in projects and objectives that are contained within the Prevent strategy and contribute towards building community resilience against extremism and supporting those vulnerable to radicalisation in the borough
