newport wales, United Kingdom Newport City Homes Full time

Vacancy: Community Development Facilitator

Closing Date: Wednesday 27 November

Shortlisting Date: Thursday 28 November

Interview: Thursday 5 / Friday 6 December

Salary: £33,766.56

About the vacancy:

Newport City Homes are seeking to add to our Community Development Team. We are looking for someone who is:

  • Focused and passionate about supporting our communities
  • Experienced in Community Development and the long term support for community assets
  • A skilled practitioner on supporting local communities to play an active role in their community
  • Experienced of understanding local community issues and encouraging resident involvement
  • Practiced in enhancing the capacity and contribution of the voluntary sector

-

The Community Development Team has adopted an Asset Based Community Development [ABCD] approach to delivering its social purpose.

-

ABCD seeks to strengthen communities by focusing on 'what's strong, rather than what's wrong'. The approach empowers people to identify, harness and build on existing 'assets' and use these to shape their own community. Assets can include physical things like buildings or green spaces, as well as intangible resources such as experience, knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm.

-

Our customers are at the heart of everything we do and you will support the development of place based leadership, putting you at the forefront of transforming communities and exceeding customer expectations.

-

You will assist customers and communities to bring about social change and improve the quality of life in their local area, conducting community development work to actively engage communities in understanding the issues which affect their lives, setting goals for improvement and responding to problems and needs through empowerment and active participation.

-

Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with Neighbourhood and Asset Management colleagues, you will be responsible for developing and delivering community led regeneration in defined communities, focusing on improving outcomes across a wide range of quality of life indicators including economic prosperity and health and wellbeing.
  • You will build on the assets that are already found in communities and mobilise individuals, groups and organisations to come together and take control of shaping the regeneration of their community, or delivering 'what matters' plans.
  • You will work to establish long term relationships with key stakeholders and local communities to ensure local plans reflect their priorities as part of a wider vision for the area and take full advantage of the potential for aligning resources and funding opportunities.
  • You will work directly alongside customers, to strengthen community confidence, build on existing customer engagement and increase connections and opportunities for interaction, participation and social interaction.
  • You will liaise with and provide excellent communication to customers and wider members of our communities.
  • You will contribute to regeneration plans, 'what matters' plans, community engagement plans and initiatives to counter worklessness and financial exclusion.
  • You will help devise and deliver initiatives that make a positive difference to the lives of customers and the communities in which they live.
  • You will be responsible for the coordination and delivery of social programmes with external providers.
  • You will research external opportunities for training, employment and social programmes.
  • You will work with training organisations and employers to develop training, return to work and employment opportunities and cater for the unique circumstances of customers.
  • You will work with the local community to build capacity and resilience so that the ownership of plans and priorities is at a community level.
  • You will work with colleagues across NCH to assist with improvements to the public realm by helping to coordinate environmental improvements.
  • You will respond proactively to customer complaints
  • You will act upon safeguarding concerns immediately and in compliance with the safeguarding policy and procedure.
  • You will keep up to date with all relevant legislation and good practice issues relating to the role
  • You will be responsible for the identification and management of business risk.
