Waste Management Operations Lead

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Operations Manager to join our team at Biffa. As an Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of our hazardous waste operations, ensuring the highest level of safety, health, and environmental standards are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the operational team to achieve site KPIs and targets, including safety, health, and environmental performance.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance customer service.
  • Collaborate with the Site Manager, Project and Maintenance Manager to ensure seamless coordination and communication.
  • Lead by example, promoting a proactive culture within the team and driving a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement risk assessments and method statements to ensure compliance with hazardous waste legislation.
  • Conduct incident investigations and disciplinary hearings, ensuring a fair and transparent process.
  • Manage human resources to maximize performance, including line management functions and personnel issues.
  • Participate in the development of new projects and lead project implementation as requested.

Requirements

  • Degree in Chemical related science or Engineering.
  • IOSH Managing Safely.
  • Experience of managing an operational team within the Hazardous Waste industry, ideally in Physical-Chemical Treatment and/or Hazardous Waste Transfer Station.
  • Relevant professional experience, including managing a mixed skills team in a busy demanding environment.
  • Computer literate/using MS Office applications.
  • Strong relationship management, leadership, and motivational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A natural problem solver, who thrives under pressure and can change priorities with autonomy.
  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented.
