Lead Diabetes Nurse Specialist

Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and skilled nurse to lead the Diabetes Service at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As the Lead Nurse for Diabetes, you will play a critical role in ensuring that diabetes nursing care is of the highest standard.
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and adaptable individual with advanced diabetes clinical skills. They will be an expert practitioner in the field of Diabetes Nursing, providing strategic and clinical leadership across the organisation. The role will involve working closely with the Diabetes Networks, primary and secondary care, and the voluntary sector to improve the quality of care provision for patients with diabetes.
Main Duties of the Job
The Diabetes Lead Nurse will:
- Provide professional leadership to the nursing workforce within Diabetes and Endocrine and progress diabetes nursing in line with local, regional, and national policies.
- Lead the development of the specialty service and contribute to the strategic direction of nursing within the trust.
- Act as a role model, demonstrating and setting high standards of care and providing clinical leadership to others.
- Work with the clinical lead for Diabetes and Endocrinology and the Chief Nurse team to develop and facilitate the implementation of a strategy for diabetes nursing to meet the needs of patients both in hospital and in the community.
- Collate and record quantitative and qualitative data that provide evidence of productivity, outcomes, and quality through audit and research.
- Offer professional advice and expertise that influences the development of local diabetes strategies and implementation plans.
- The Lead Diabetes Nurse will play an integral role in the delivery of the Nursing and Midwifery strategy.
